Six of Crows was a planned new series on Netflix before the streamer surprisingly canceled its mothership series, Shadow and Bone, after two seasons, eventually leading to the spin-off being scrapped. Considering the Leigh Bardugo book series-based show is one of the most beloved on the service and has a strong fandom, an outrage ensues, and now, fans have been clamoring for the spin-off’s release. So, will Six of Crows still happen?
The Future of the Six of Crows Spin-Off
Sadly, there are no words yet about the future of the Six of Crows spin-off after Netflix scrapped this project following the cancellation of Shadow and Bone. However, fans have been working hard to see the return of the latter show and even launched a petition for it to be saved, which may eventually lead to its spin-off being made.
Earlier this year, Shadow and Bone’s creative team was quietly working on the spin-off, and the series showrunner Eric Heisserer even had big plans for the planned sequel. According to Entertainment Weekly, the main events from Bardugo’s Six of Crows duology would be adapted, including the jurda parem Grisha drug storyline.

However, at the time, the show was still in very early stages and wasn’t officially greenlit. Heisserer revealed that the future of this series depended on how Shadow and Bone Season 2 would perform with viewers on Netflix. As they were all hopeful that it would receive a go signal, at least they already had a plan.
“One of the reasons, not all of them, that I got the privilege of working with Daegan Fryklind as co-showrunner in season 2 is that I was busy with the writers’ room for Six of Crows,” Heisserer said. “We are ready to launch that as its own story.”
The spin-off was set to pick up where the Shadow and Bone Season 2 ended, which saw an extended coda that left several characters on different paths. Hence, it was supposed to be its own “little season of fun” in which the original show’s characters would participate. With Daegan Fryklind working on Shadow and Bone, the original idea was to run both shows simultaneously.

Sadly, Shadow and Bone got canceled, resulting in Six of Crows being scrapped.
Fans’ Cry for Shadow and Bone Season 2
On November 15, the unexpected happened when Netflix announced Shadow and Bone’s cancellation, meaning the third season would never be in the works. It also meant that the proposed Six of Crows spin-off would never see the light of day.
Deadline broke the news about the canceled Netflix shows following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Aside from Shadow and Bone, Glamorous, Captain Fall, and Agent Elvis were also canceled.
Ain't no way we got this trending 😭🤣 @netflix reallyyyyyyy messed up omg. We are crazy 🤣 #SaveShadowAndBone #SixOfCrowsSpinoff #NoMournersNoFunerals

According to reports, Shadow and Bone showed a significant viewership drop from the first to second season. The production delay, which was feared to significantly affect the viewership due to the long wait, was also seen as one of the reasons for the cancellation.
That said, fans waiting to see Six of Crows come to fruition share their frustrations and clamors to be in the works.
X (former Twitter) user @wesperdelusion fans should keep fighting for the new series’ release as Netflix might start to do “big things” again after the holidays. Many also shared Kaz Brekker’s scene where he said, “What business,” as they referred to the streaming giant’s move.

Amidst these calls, one fan is confident that the Grishaverse will continue. “And we won’t stop until we get it,” @marypot swore.
With Shadow and Bone’s cancellation and Six of Crows being scrapped, the fans’ frustrations and demands are quite understandable. The series ended with several loose ends yet to be solved, not to mention a much-awaited new series that never made it to the small screen. Hence, with a petition in tow and a strong fandom, they all hope another streamer or network will pick up these two shows.
