The buzz of Extraction 2‘s opening day at the streaming platform hadn’t even faded when Netflix green-lighted Extraction 3 of Marvel star Chris Hemsworth’s military action franchise. The announcement came on Saturday, June 17, from the film’s lead and director, Sam Hargrave, during the Tudum fan event.

The duo shared that they are already in talks with Netflix about the Extraction franchise’s renewal, and they have a story in mind. There might not be much to go by right now, but the upcoming threequel will surely include more stunts and killing as it continues the action-packed journey of mercenary Tyler Rake, played by Hemsworth.

The possible cast and plot of Netflix Extraction 3

The makers of the Extraction franchise will disclose the plot details for its third installment on a later date, but rather sooner than later, considering the announcement of Extraction 3 coming a day after the release of Extraction 2.

However, fans who caught early shows of Extraction 2 can form an expectation of what will unfold in the next film from the ending. In the sequel, Tyler Rake successfully spearheads a prison break and rescues the sister of his ex-wife and her children, who were locked in the clutches of Georgian mob boss Davit Radiani. 

  • After Tyler Rake punishes and eliminates the lead antagonist Radiani, his brother Zurab is eager to avenge his sibling’s death. A thrilling case across Vienna leads to the demise of Zurab at the hands of protagonist Rake. However, the police catch Rake and his partner Nik, leaving the story open for further exploration.

  • The plot will possibly address the arrest of Tyler Rake and Nik Khan and further shed light on the mysterious character of Idris Elba from Extraction 2. Golshifteh Farahani (Nik Khan) will likely return to reprise her role. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth will definitely continue his Tyler Rake portrayal after sharing his love and enthusiasm for future projects of the Extraction franchise.

Fans’ Response to Extraction 3

The first film in the Extraction franchise was based on Ande Parks‘ graphic novel Ciudad. The film premiered in 2020 and garnered great reception from fans. It also became one of the notable film openings for Netflix amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • The Extraction 2 that followed the successful opener in three years brought back assumed-to-be-dead Tyler Rake. He continued his journey of saving the lives of innocents and eliminating anyone who hurdles the task. The sequel also gave space for the future progress of the Extraction universe.

Kimber Myers reviewed Extraction 2, sharing it had too much going on and yet failed to grab the viewers’ attention. Further criticizing the lack of character depth in the film’s lead, Rake. “Extraction 2 tries and fails to find greater meaning in the mayhem,” she wrote.

  • Meanwhile, many fans applauded the progress of Tyler Rake’s character, eye-catching stunts, and the action-driven plot of the first two films. The viewers of the Extraction franchise were also quick in expressing their eagerness and desire for a third installment to add to the Extraction universe.
