Oshi no Ko is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed anime series of the year. The story navigates through the life of a girl, Ai Hoshino, and the reality of the idol industry. Ai’s son Aqua Hoshino is the reincarnation of a doctor who was killed by a stalker of Ai and was reborn as her child. He is an orphan and a fan of Ai in his previous life and is also the main protagonist of the show. He was involved in the entertainment world from an early age, but his main objective has always been to take revenge on his father who was responsible for his mother’s death.

Aqua in Oshi no Ko was born as a reincarnation of the doctor who was looking after Ai’s pregnancy. But as he was born as her son, he saw his mother being murdered by the same man. He changed into a cold, calculated, and cunning person as he vowed to avenge his mother’s death and rain hell upon his father.
Aqua desperately wanted to be happy in this new life. But, he became emotionally distant from the tragedy of his past. He genuinely cares about people and also his younger twin sister Ruby. But apart from that, he fails to show his love for others and his overprotective attitude towards Ruby also leads to many consequences.
What happens to Aqua and his motives after he encounters varied truths in Oshi no Ko?
Aqua discovers that the demon in his life, his father, was dead. He finds out that the only reason for all of his quests and ambitions is finally a vanished reality, lost in the mist somewhere unknown. Aqua, therefore, begins to be warmer to people and starts supporting Ruby and her goals as well. He despises his acts and his manipulation and he wishes to become a better companion for all.

- Owing to his mistaken approach, he undergoes a mental breakdown as he discovers his father’s true identity and ambitions. He becomes a cold and calculating person, much more than he was before.
- Aqua becomes a person who chases his vengeance far more than anything else. He even starts to believe that he won’t survive after everything is over.
Does Aqua get his revenge in Oshi no Ko?
When Aqua realizes that his motives have been shattered due to a lie, he begins to plot his father’s death and take revenge. But at the same time, he also believes that his quest for vengeance will ultimately end up taking his life as well. He breaks up with Akane to protect her and to keep her away from his revenge plot. He becomes a psychological manipulator and starts using people to fulfill his goals.
But Aqua discovers that his anger and his pain are slowly killing him from the inside. He realizes that he has become devoid of a soul and is empty inside. Aqua’s revenge plot never turns into a solid reality but he ends up hurting and affecting a lot of people. His life becomes a mockery as he starts to live through his ruination.

Aqua Hoshino is one of the main protagonists of Oshi no Ko. His ideals are conflicted due to his tragedies in life. But, we have to understand that his anger and his thirst for power and vengeance are ultimately linked to his choices in life.
