Demon Slayer with its central antagonist Muzan Kibutsuji has created an air of contention amongst fans. While the demon slayers are drawn closer to the upper moons in the Swordsmith Village Arc, we can look into the possibility of the final battle with the Demon King closing in.
The demon slayers have pursued Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Moon demons for a long time. Now as they are drawn closer to the showdown, we cannot help but see it as a result of Muzan’s restlessness. In this article, we will look into the many aspects of the battle between Muzan and the demon slayers and the protagonist who is responsible for Muzan Kibutsuji’s death in the manga.
Why is Muzan Kibutsuji shown as a desperate antagonist in Demon Slayer S3
Muzan Kibutsuji has spent centuries trying to find a cure for his demonic inability to face the sun. He is searching for the Blue Spider Lily and also longs to find a possible cure for the demons he creates. He has directed his brigade of the Upper Demon Moons to find the lily and slay every demon slayer in the way.

- While Muzan Kibutsuji has been in a constant search for the Blue Spider Lily, he is shown as a desperate antagonist of the show.
- In the manga, he does find a cure in Nezuko who is shown to have the ability to walk into the sun. Muzan’s final battle with the demon slayers is to capture Nezuko and demolish every obstacle in the middle.
- Muzan is shown as an antagonist who is not only desperate to live but also desperate due to a fear of death.
Muzan Kibutsuji and the Infinity Castle Arc
The Infinity Castle Arc is when the demon slayers have defeated most of the Upper Moon demons and they finally proceed to discover Muzan’s cocoon and kill him. Muzan faces Tanjiro and Giyu in this encounter and also several Hashiras including Mitsuri and Obanai.
A fierce battle ensues and Giyu along with Obanai tries to pin Muzan down. On the other hand, Yushiro tries to absorb Nakime’s cells and using his Blood Demon Art takes control of the Infinity Castle.

Muzan is furiously enraged at this provocation and starts attacking recklessly with his extended limbs which also creates shockwaves. Muzan then proceeds to land seriously fatal attacks on Tanjiro and the Hashiras.
Mitsuri puts up a strong fight against the Demon King and finally recovers from her loss of strength. Finally, as Muzan was about to land a critical blow on Mitsuri, Tanjiro stabs Muzan with a broken Nichirin blade in the head, and at the same time, Infinity Castle collapses.
The Sunrise Countdown Arc and the Death of Muzan Kibutsuji
Fighting in the ruins of a city, the demon slayers are directed to keep Muzan engaged for ninety minutes until sunrise. While Muzan creates a heap of dead bodies of demon slayers, the Hashiras and the trio- Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu fight with all of their remaining life. Muzan is injected with Lady Tamayo’s drugs, for which he kills her eventually in the previous arc.
The demon slayers fight him till sunrise and he is weakened by Tamayo’s multiple medicines, also causing him to age 9000 years in three hours. His wounds from Yoriichi also begin to resurface and he is horrified at the sight of his weakness. Just before dawn, he attempts to divide himself into lumps and run away, but he is consistently attacked by the demon slayers until sunrise.

Finally, as the sun rises, Muzan tries to hide in the shadows and even go underground but the demon slayers hold him and block his path. Gyomei Himejima chains his neck while Tanjiro sticks his blade into his body and attempts to turn it red.
Muzan’s body is burnt to ash and he is defeated in a fight that resulted in countless casualties. But, during this endgame, Tanjiro is turned into a demon by Muzan. He later recovers with the help of his comrades and Nezuko and chooses to live a normal life thereafter.
Conclusion
Muzan Kibutsuji wreaked pain and havoc in Japan for many centuries. He was a ruthless killer whose desperation and fear made him a monster of accidental creation. We can either see Muzan as a character who was lost in the mayhem of human civilization or an individual who gave up on his humanity only to intervene in the civilizational project and wipe it from within. Whatever may be the reason, we will get to that point in the anime in the upcoming arcs and find a resolution to Muzan Kibutsuji’s death.
