Ayaka: A Story of Bonds and Wounds is one of the only original anime series of Summer 2023. It is created and written by GoRa and animated by Studio Blanc. Ayaka is a science fiction and supernatural anime.
Ayaka anime tells the narrative of Yukito Yanagi, a young orphan whose life is flipped upside down when he encounters a weird and stoic man one day. That person claims to be Yanagi’s father’s disciple. From there, he’s taken to the seven islands of Ayakajima’s universe, which is vastly different from his own.

Yukito discovers that his father has two more disciples, and after meeting them, he discovers that they are the protectors of the island, guided by his father. He also learns that the island’s peace and harmony are at stake and they need to work together to protect it.
This anime series isn’t based on a manga or light novel series, and it’s written by a member of the production team of GoRA. While anime-original episodes aren’t unique or that uncommon, they have been very scarcely produced over the last few years. This remains to be true, especially during the Summer 2023 anime season. This makes the show stand out among the other anime releases of the year so far.

Ayaka was screened at Sakura Con 2023 before its public debut on July 1st. However, the critics are not very excited about the anime. Although the story could be considered as interesting, the protagonist’s ability to control water is nothing new in particular. The idea behind the anime is cool, but there are a lot of production flaws.
Ayaka’s low production budget results in poor animation quality, which is characterized by weird glossy graphics, as well as bad acting from the voice actors. The character, too, fails to elicit sympathy or compel viewers to root for them.
The underwhelming performance of anime has been a source of conversation at the comic con as well. This has resulted in many viewers dropping the anime from their watchlist.
Where to watch this anime about sorcery and the supernatural?
The first episode of Ayaka was released on 2nd July 2023. The new episodes of the anime series will be released on Sundays at 1 A.M. JST. Each episode would last for approximately 23 minutes. It has been announced that the anime is going to have 9 episodes in total. There has been no official announcement as of yet for a second season of the anime.
The fans can watch the anime at the given date and time on the Japanese channel BS11. For international viewers, it is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
