I’ve been an ardent fan of Life is Strange since my first playthrough and for the fact, I’ve played the game over and over again for almost four times now. The heartfelt emotions, branching storyline and the compelling journey makes the game genuinely distinctive.
DontNod Entertainment, the developers of Life is Strange is thoroughly preparing for the sequel and in an arrangement of that, they’re releasing a standalone prequel to the game – The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
This game was revealed at Square-Enix’s absurd and exceptionally fast-paced E3 press conference this year. To me, The Adventure of Captain Spirit and Kingdom Hearts III were the only perceptible games of all that were shown during the condemned press conference.
You play as Chris, a ten-year-old lonely grade-schooler who has a difficult relationship with his father, who also lost his mother prior to the beginning of the game. Throughout the game, you’ll explore a lot about Chris, his father and their substandard relationship.
But why did DontNod go for a prequel first? Why is this game important? And how is The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit connected to Life is Strange 2? These are some of the many questions I’ll be discussing in this article.
Life is Strange 2, the sequel to the critically-acclaimed story-driven experience that revolves around troubled high-schoolers and their lives, is currently in development. DontNod started working on Life is Strange 2 right after the first game’s conclusion. We don’t know if we’ll revisit Arcadia Bay as the storm swept with it the entire town in the first game’s finale. Only if you chose to save Chloe though.
We’ll see multiple openings depending on our final decision – Arcadia Bay or Chloe. I chose to save Chloe on my first playthrough because that’s why the game’s made for. For the entire game, you’re trying to save Chloe from all the mishaps she might face, and when it comes to saving her for one last time, you’ll give up on her? Nope. Not gonna happen.
During multiple interviews, the DontNod team emphasised how The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is connected to Life is Strange 2. We’ll see some fair amount of backstory in the former, get to explore the characters and develop some connection between both the games.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is set in Beaver Creek and takes place 3 years after the events of the first game. Consequences are a part of this game as well and with them, players will be prepared for what to expect in Life is Strange 2. The former is really meant to be a warmup for the upcoming Life is Strange game, just like how Team Salvato did with Doki Doki Literature Club! although we haven’t heard of their new game yet.

Chris will surely be a character of great significance in Life is Strange 2 and I’m really inquisitive to know about his role in Life is Strange 2. The theme of The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is to discover the imaginations and fantasy worlds a ten-year-old revolves around. Yet again, we’ll be visiting a broken home where things aren’t easy and yet life needs to go on.
It might be possible for Chris to be a playable character in Life is Strange 2 at some point. Nevertheless, all games in the Life is Strange universe wants the player to discover happiness, joys, sorrows, ups and downs of life and friendship. Some might argue the games are basically movies, I’ll say, at least they don’t suck.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is releasing 26th June on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for free. On the other hand, Life is Strange 2’s first episode of a total of five has a release date of 27th September 2018.
