There have been rumors around the gaming community that an upcoming game in the XCOM series, XCOM 3, is in the works.
XCOM is a sci-fi turn-based tactics video game developed by Firaxis Games and 2K Games. It’s been a global hit since its release and is very much loved by gamers all over the world.

Unfortunately, there is no official announcement for XCOM 3 yet. The last entry in the XCOM series was XCOM 2 which was released back in February of 2016. Players of this game have been enjoying XCOM 2: War of the Chosen (DLC) and XCOM: Chimera Squad. As informed by Firaxis, Chimera Squad is not XCOM 3, but rather a standalone title that is still canon.
Fans of XCOM have been on the lookout for the third installment in the series for more than six years now. Though they’ve been enjoying the DLCs and spinoffs mentioned above, they still want a full-blown XCOM 3.
Players were already teased with a possible release of XCOM 3 back in 2019, but since Firaxis is also officially working on Marvel’s Midnight Suns, progress for XCOM 3 might be put on hold. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is also a tactical turn-based RPG, which is very similar to XCOM.

Although that might be the case, still, don’t get your hopes down.
Back in 2019, the creative director of Firaxis, Jake Solomon, posted on Twitter that Firaxis is looking to hire new people in the future. Also, the Firaxis homepage added an advertisement looking for new employees to “take the XCOM series to the next level.”. The position was filled that same year.
This could only mean two things:
- They hired more people to work on XCOM: Chimera Squad (released last year)
- Firaxis is putting a dedicated team for XCOM 3 but is keeping it lowkey.
