Lionel Messi GOAT

The most awaited international football tournament, the FIFA World Cup (Qatar), had just kicked off with a bang last November 20, 2022. The brightest and most talented athletes from around the globe are gathering for this much-anticipated event. One name that stands out in the crowd is the Argentine legend, Lionel Messi. Though he has stepped foot on the biggest stage of football many times (four times to be exact), Messi is yet to win his first-ever World Cup championship. Lionel Messi’s claim to fame (accolades and more)

Famously known as La Pulga or The Flea during his younger years, Messi has already been one hell of a footballer since then. At 34 years old, his career is still far from over yet he has already achieved almost everything there is in football. Name it and Messi already has it, except for the World Cup at least. After almost three decades of playing the world-famous sport, Leo has already amassed countless awards, trophies, recognitions, and championships to back up his claim to the G.O.A.T. title. Here are just some of Messi’s accolades:

  • 7-time Ballon d’Or awardee
  • 1-time FIFA Player of the Year
  • 2-time Copa América Best Player
  • Copa América Best Young Player
  • 4-time Onze d’Or
  • 8-time ESPN’s Best Forward awardee
  • 1-time FIFA World Cup Golden Ball
  • and many more

Lionel Messi Championships

As a marquee player, Messi consistently belonged to the top 5 or so players in every league he plays. Since his early years as a pro, he continuously brought a winning culture to his team. In totality, he already has 41 titles. 35 of these were during his time with FC Barcelona while 2 championships were during his latest stint with Paris-Saint Germain FC. Lastly, he brought 4 titles to the Argentina national team.

Messi’s one last push to become the G.O.A.T.

Leo Messi has already cemented his legacy as one of the best, if not the best, with what he already achieved in the sport. However, there is a hurdle he seems to haven’t gotten past through yet – The FIFA World Cup title.

As one of the favorites to win the title this year, Argentina is optimistic that they can win it all with the Messi. The PSG forward has already been training far from the team but recent clips has shown him practicing now with his teammates.

As mentioned, he has already won multiple titles in different leagues and has also won some for his country. But, finally winning the World Cup this year would solidify his case as football’s greatest player, not just the greatest forward. In addition to that, he would also gain some edge against his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo. The World Cup title has also been elusive to Ronaldo, same with Messi.

Argentina is set to take the center stage with Saudi Arabia on November 22, 2022 in Lusail Stadium. This will be their first match under Group C.
