One of the most popular social media apps in the United States and India is Snapchat. Recently, they have rolled out a new feature powered by GPT, basically giving them a personal assistant inside the app. Although Snapchat claims that My AI is meant to make the Snapchat experience more enjoyable, a lot of users are angry and feel that they may get hacked because of the feature.
Snapchat users are angry because they have to pay to remove My AI, among other things
The top reason why a lot of Snapchat users are angry at My AI is because you have to pay for it to be removed from your account. They explain that this isn’t a feature they wanted in the first place. With that being said, why would they have to pay for it to be removed?
Say hi to My AI, our new chatbot located at the top of your chat. Write a song for your bestie who loves cheese, find the best IYKYK restaurant, or Snap it a photo of your garden to find the perfect recipe. Now free for all Snapchatters. #SnapPartnerSummit pic.twitter.com/U2KdozuWQz

- Most of these users voiced out their concerns in response to Snapchat’s tweet announcing that the My AI feature is being gradually rolled out. Although there are users who find it entertaining, some are concerned for their own privacy and safety.
- In the past, various news outlets such as The Washington Post reported that My AI gives inappropriate responses. However, Snapchat has promised that they have resolved this issue. To deal with this, they have put into place age filters for the chatbot. However, this is a bit concerning as you’d have to either tell My AI your age or have it access your Snapchat information.

- Snapchat users also report that My AI is capable of tracking their location. Some of the tweets we’ve seen show that the GPT-powered bot is capable of “gaslighting” its users.

- Various users have shared that if you directly ask My AI if it knows your location, it assures you that it doesn’t. However, rephrasing your question yields different results. If you ask where the nearest McDonald’s is to you, it looks like My AI accesses your location data.
Can your Snapchat account get hacked because of My AI?
Coinciding with the My AI rollout, there has been an increasing amount of users sharing that their Snapchat accounts got hacked. However, there is no telling yet that My AI is what’s causing the hackings in the app. Despite this, it’s still important to stay vigilant and protect your information online against hackers.

- The GPT-powered feature can be a cause of concern because of its hacking risks. This can be possible if those with malicious intent use this bot to their advantage. If hackers successfully take control of the My AI feature in Snapchat, they can use it to send out spam messages or phishing links.

- It may even learn how to converse more naturally like a human and impersonate other users. If this happens, then hackers can use My AI to collect sensitive information from unsuspecting users.
- To address this, Snapchat has assured its users that their chatbot is secure and encrypted. It does not store any of the messages you send in its server. Plus, users can always report any suspicious or inappropriate messages they receive from the chatbot.
please get rid of mine. it’s making me super uncomfortable. i don’t want this app anymore.

- Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of or remove My AI from your account is by subscribing to Snapchat’s premium service.
A lot of Snapchat users are now threatening to leave the app altogether because of how unsafe and inconvenient this new feature is. Even though the developers are defending My AI’s use, it’s obviously something most users do not want.
