Despite being a success at the box office, the seventh installment in the popular horror slasher franchise Scream, Scream 7, will be heading towards another path. News just came out the next Scream movie will be moving on from the hands of Radio Silence and will now be directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freak). But, why did the directors suddenly change despite the huge theatrical success of Scream 7?
Will there be a Scream 7?
After grossing $169 Million worldwide on a $24 Million budget, Scream 6 almost topped the earnings of the original film in 1996. Due to that, it’s undeniable that Paramount Pictures will be picking up the franchise for another film. Although there is no announcement, with such huge success, it’s confirmed there will be a 7th Scream movie.

Apart from that, the movie will head from Radio Silence to another renowned horror director, Christopher Landon. The only thing that’s stopping all of these is the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Rest assured, once everything is settled, we will get more news about the progress of Scream 7.
Why is Christopher Landon directing Scream 7 instead of Radio Silence?
After more than a decade, Paramount revived the beloved Scream franchise in 2022 with the help of Radio Silence’s directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. This year, they continued their hot streak with Scream 6 with the blossoming star Jenna Ortega. But, why are Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett not named as the directors of Scream 7?
Well, it has been reported that the Radio Silence directors are currently working on a massive project with Universal Studios. According to various sources, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct an untitled Monster movie from Universal which would feature the main star of the last two Scream movies, Melissa Barrera. The producers also reportedly cast Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man: Quantumania), William Catlett (The Devil You Know), Alisha Weir (Matilda the Musical), Dan Stevens (The Guest), and Kevin Durand (Legion). The project also initially had the late Angus Cloud (Euphoria) as one of the leads but since the young actor has unfortunately passed, there could be some changes.
A few months ago, the two directors revealed that they are filming in Ireland. Moreover, they also teased that the movie will be “funny, fun, it’s a bloodbath”. Universal’s Monster movie is expected to be released on April 19, 2024.
Who is Christopher Landon?
Christopher Landon is an American filmmaker and the son of the late great actor Michael Landon. Chris’s family and siblings have been in the entertainment industry since their parents were also actors in the ’70s. However, Christopher Landon would take the path of being a director and having a knack for the horror genre,
His most-known films were Disturbia (2007), Happy Death Day (2017), Happy Death Day 2U (2019), Freaky (2020), Paranormal Activity, and his most recent one, We Have a Ghost (2022). Landon also came out as gay and has been actively advocating equality in show business.
The never-ending Scream franchise
Scream 6 had a satisfying ending but also a questionable one. Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) has been having episodes of hallucinations about seeing his father, Billy Loomis, who was also one of the infamous Ghostface killers and the antagonist from the original film. Although she and her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) have been trying to escape the prejudice behind their family’s history, it seems that Sam succumb to the very thing she hated. In her defense, she only used it to kill Detective Bailey who happens to be another Ghostface killer.

We don’t know what Scream 7 would be exploring but it’s highly likely about Sam’s character development in the future. She may continue to don the serial killer’s mask, but use it to stop others from doing brutal crimes. Or maybe not.
