This year’s World Scout Jamboree is going through many controversies. The scouts first had to face the heat waves that hit South Korea without proper management of heat protection and hygiene. Later, the Politician Sung Il Jong requested BTS to perform at the K-pop Super Live concert to allegedly compensate for the perils. This decision garnered severe backlash until it was confirmed that the K-pop boy group isn’t part of the line-up, and here’s why.
Why isn’t BTS performing at the 2023 World Scout Jamboree?
On August 9, the South Korean Government hosting the 2023 World Scout Jamboree for the second time since 1991, announced the final line-up for the K-pop Super Live. Many K-pop stars are going to headline the show, but BTS isn’t going to participate.

The major reason behind their absences is Jin and j-hope‘s ongoing enlistment in mandatory military service, which forbids them from participating in any show. SUGA is also preparing to enlist soon, so their performance was unlikely.
- However, Korean politician Sung Il Jong of the People Power Party requested the Ministry of Defence to let the global superstars join the event. This invitation garnered severe backlash from the citizens as well as international fans.
- They accused him of exploiting BTS’s popularity to hide the event’s mismanagement. While also pointing out that the group doesn’t have time to prepare for an event on such short notice.
Sung Il Jong’s response to the backlash
The Politician Sung came forward on a radio show to clarify his stand on inviting BTS to perform. “I believe that ARMYs are disappointed because we conducted BTS’s enlistment and now are requesting them to perform,” Sung said.

- He further emphasized his role in proposing the bill for BTS’s military exemption and acknowledged their contribution to promoting Korean culture. He also shared that it was just his personal opinion and that he knows the difficulties that stopped BTS from performing at the Jamboree concert.
- Following the invitation, HYBE LABELS announced they would send merchandise to the event to involve BTS in the best way possible.

After the rescheduling, the 2023 World Scout Jamboree concert will take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
- The concert will begin after the official scout meeting at 7 PM KST and roughly run for 2 to 3 hours. Fans can watch the K-pop Super Live on the official YouTube of KBS 2 or via the video embedded above.
