June 13, 2023 – Television’s favorite uncle, Shannon Sharpe, makes his last appearance on FS1’s UNDISPUTED. Sharpe shared the floor with his co-host Skip Bayless for seven years, whom he usually argues with about everything in sports. The famous sports personality thanked everybody on his last day with the show, including Skip. The two created TV’s most beloved sports talk show duo since they first aired in 2016.

According to New York Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel, Shannon Sharpe agreed to a contract buyout from Fox Sports (the mother company of FS1). The production company and the former professional football star had a mutual decision that Sharpe will be departing from UNDISPUTED right after the 2023 NBA Finals.

Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless have been known to argue and debate about various sports topics (mostly about NBA and NFL), and although both personalities sometimes get heated, it’s practically the idea of the whole show. In December 2022, Skip and Shannon had a tense exchange of words after the former attacked the latter’s football career. Skip Bayless said, “(Tom Brady) is still playing at 45 when you had to stop at 35″. This triggered Unc Shannon and it looked like the debacle was going very personal. Some viewers believe that Skip went over the line and that his argument is already getting out of hand. However, Sharpe gave his insights about the incident and said that “everything is fine”.

Apart from that incident, earlier this year, the two got heated again after they disagreed on an issue about Damar Hamlin. Sharpe was a professional NFL player and played for 14 seasons. Of course, Sharpe would feel empathy for a fellow pro football player. The Hall-of-Famer found Bayless’ tweets about Damar Hamlin disrespectful to his NFL brother, who had a life-and-death situation on the field in January. It was obvious that Shannon Sharpe was having intense animosity towards Skip Bayless due to his choice of words. It probably was the point where Shannon had enough of Skip. Because of the recent incidents that could have deteriorated the once-happy relationship between the two, rumors are spreading that Shannon Sharpe is leaving because of his “beef” with Skip Bayless. Some people believe that Skip blatantly disrespected Shannon on-air, forcing him to leave the show altogether. His comments about Sharpe’s NFL career and Damar Hamlin’s situation may have been the final straw for Uncle Shannon Sharpe. However, the three-time Super Bowl champion hasn’t made any announcement on the truth of why he is exiting UNDISPUTED.

FS1’s UNDISPUTED was a huge success and made Shannon Sharpe a household name in sports television. The former NFL player retired in 2003 but immediately went into broadcasting. In 2016, he had his big break in UNDISPUTED alongside Skip Bayless who had just left ESPN’s First Take. As part of the contract buyout, Shannon Sharpe is allowed to bring with him his podcast Club Shay Shay. However, his next destination is yet unknown.
