Long back, Master Tengen used to be a jujutsu sorcerer and had the power of immortality, which means his soul switches bodies with a special vessel called Star Plasma every 500 years. He is also known as the strongest user of barrier techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen.
- Master Tengen’s barriers keep the Jujutsu schools safe by always changing the way the building looks, making it hard for others to find.
- His barrier technique also hides the entrance to a cursed storehouse where many powerful cursed objects are kept. It has more than a thousand doors, but only Tengen knows which door leads to the actual storehouse.
What does Master Tengen look like? Is he human?
Tengen used to be a regular human, but now he is an immortal jujutsu sorcerer. In the past, he would switch bodies every few centuries, however, according to Tengen himself, he is now more like a cursed spirit than a human.
Because of Master Tengen’s jujutsushiki, his soul cannot die, but his body continues to decay over time.
This can cause problems if his powers become uncontrollable. To prevent this, every 500 years, he merges his soul with a human vessel known as the Plasma Star Vessel to “reset” his body. He tried to merge with the Plasma Star vessel 11 years ago, with Riko Amanai as the vessel. But Toji Fushiguro’s interference made the merger fail.

Is it possible to kill Master Tengen?
- After the unsuccessful merging attempt with the Plasma Star Vessel eleven years ago, Master Tengen started ageing rapidly, and eventually, he lost his sense of identity.
- Now, he sees himself as one with everything in heaven and earth, existing in a unique and different way
The form that Yuji and others encounter in the manga is only possible through Master Tengen’s barrier techniques. This means that while he can be influenced through Curse Manipulation, it is unlikely that he can be killed.
