On October 19, Mnet officially revealed the MAMA 2023 nominations and the criteria for judging them. Despite the changes, this year’s lineup includes many celebratory K-pop acts who ruled on the music charts and garnered positive responses from the audiences during the eligibility period of October 22, 2022, and September 30, 2023.
As the K-pop industry is filled with talented artists, some K-pop idols missed out on MAMA nominations. Read ahead to find out who should have been nominated for the MAMA 2023 and how the criteria have changed.
K-pop artists robbed of MAMA 2023 nominations
In the celebration of impactful K-pop artists of the year, some didn’t receive the equivalent recognition at the 2023 MAMA Awards as the love they managed to garner with their latest releases.
One of the acts that genuinely dominated the nominations is BTS, whose members are pursuing solo activities while they enlist in the military with an aim for a 2025 reunion.
namjoon and jin should’ve been nominated for indigo and the astronaut for MAMA 2023
yoongi should’ve had more nominations for haegeum/d-dayI said what I said!

Most of the members, including Taehyung, Jimin, Jungkook, j-hope, and SUGA, received a deserved nomination. However, the group’s leader, Namjoon, who released his solo album Indigo, didn’t secure a place on the list. Similarly, the group’s mathyung Jin was also absent from the 2023 MAMA nominations.
Meanwhile, many artists are nominated in the Worldwide Fans’ Choice category but not in any of the other technical categories, awarding the music, creativity, and performance despite excelling at everything necessary to gain recognition.
The audacity of not nominating FIFTY FIFTY, Bouncy by ATEEZ, Set Me Free by TWICE, ENHYPEN, NMIXX, BamBam, The Boyz, TOPLINE by SKZ with Tiger JK and Dreamcatcher for the MAMA 2023 💀💀💀💀

One of the standout groups that made everyone bounce with their ‘Cheongyang pepper vibes’ but didn’t receive a nomination for their dominating performance is ATEEZ. Similarly, another group that couldn’t make it on the list of MAMA 2023 is ENHYPEN, who won the hearts of fans with their synchronization.
No ITZY, No ENHYPEN, No NMIXX, in MAMA 2023???? WHAT IS HAPPENING 🫢😶

There is also a particular blank in the nominations for the new-gen groups from JYP Entertainment, including ITZY, NMIXX, and Xdinary Heroes.
However, one of the most shocking snubs is of FIFTY FIFTY, whose viral song Cupid is still trending among netizens. The group was expected to receive a nomination for best debut, but they were utterly excluded from all the categories.
These snubs have greatly disappointed fans who were hoping to see their favorite groups receive well-deserved recognition for their talents.
Criteria for Final Winners
There are some changes in the criteria for deciding the winners of the MAMA 2023. One of the particular changes is in the Album Of The Year category, which previously counted the digital sales and streaming of the music, but from this year, these have been replaced by physical album sales.
