As The Flash finally hits theaters, the buzz around the time-twisting DC movie only seems to keep growing. As fans flock to see the Scarlet Speedster in action, they’re also treated to an end credits scene that leaves them curious about the franchise’s future. Exploring the end credits scene in The Flash

In order to understand the end credits scene, you need to know what happens beforehand in The Flash if you haven’t watched the movie. Throughout the film, Barry Allen goes on a time-traveling adventure to correct the events of the past and save his family.

In an attempt to alter the timeline, Barry stops Arthur Curry, AKA Aquaman, from even being born. And the post-credits scene takes place in the aftermath of these events. We see Barry and Arthur stumbling out of a bar together.

There’s a light-hearted exchange between the two heroes as Barry tries to explain the situation to a drunk Arthur, who struggles even to maintain balance. Amidst the banter, Arthur falls face-first into a puddle as Barry gives him the nickname Poseidon.

What does the end credits scene mean?

Unlike most Marvel movies, the end credits scene in The Flash does not introduce any new characters for future films or tease new storylines. In fact, the scene here is mostly just for comic relief.

Looking closely at it, we understand that the scene is meant to indicate that not all of the Snyderverse’s heroes have been erased from existence.

Although Barry’s time-traveling has gone wrong, it reassures fans that he was successful in correcting most of his past mistakes, including the unintentional prevention of Aquaman’s birth.

The scene suggests that despite the film’s ending seemingly replacing Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne with George Clooney’s older Batman, Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman still holds importance. There could be a redemption arc in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The future of DCEU and DC Studios

So, the question remains: What’s next for DC after The Flash movie? We all know that the Ezra Miller film is the penultimate outing in the DCEU. Under new co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Studios is in a new phase called Gods and Monsters.

The new phase promises exciting projects like Superman: Legacy, a reboot of the Superman character written and directed by James Gunn himself. The film will mark Gunn’s first feature since wrapping up his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy with the MCU.

Here’s a complete lineup of the Gods and Monsters phase:

  • Creature Commandos, animated TV series
  • Waller, TV series
  • Superman: Legacy, movie
  • Lanterns, TV series
  • The Authority, movie
  • Paradise Lost, TV series
  • The Brave and the Bold, movie
