The internet is flooded with tons and tons of negative feedback about Snapchat’s latest update, My AI. The social media platform is receiving a lot of hate and backlash following its newest addition in line with the AI trend everybody is going wild about. But, what really is Snapchat My AI and why are users angry about this new thing?
What is Snapchat My AI and how do you use it?
The famous social media platform, Snapchat, had just dropped its new free chatbot. It was first available for Snapchat Plus subscribers but the developers had just made it available to all of its 750 million users. According to Snapchat, My AI is an “experimental, friendly, chatbot” currently available to its users worldwide. Moreover, it is inspired and powered by the same AI technology, OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Despite Snapchat’s My AI resemblance to its predecessor, it still has a lot of unique attributes specifically exclusive to Snapchatters.
Say hi to My AI, our new chatbot located at the top of your chat. Write a song for your bestie who loves cheese, find the best IYKYK restaurant, or Snap it a photo of your garden to find the perfect recipe. Now free for all Snapchatters. #SnapPartnerSummit pic.twitter.com/U2KdozuWQz

The purpose of My AI is to serve as an online friend or someone (something, rather) you can talk to. You can converse with it about whatever you feel like talking about. Maybe ask My AI what could be the perfect vacation destination or how to make a quick-and-easy breakfast, My AI may just have the right answer for you. Just as long as it does not violate Snapchat’s Community Guidelines such as generating political, sexual, harassing, or deceptive content, spam, malware, or content that promotes violence, self-harm, human trafficking, or anything unethical not mentioned, then you are good to go.
You can even give My AI a nickname and let it immerse into your online life. But, just like ChatGPT, it’s not perfect. It can still give misleading, incorrect, or biased answers to your questions. That being said, it is still advisable to use it at your own discretion.

“Dangerous and fishy”: Snapchat’s My AI is receiving massive hate from Snapchatters in just a day after its release
Just a day after Snapchat rolled out My AI free to all, but its users already hate it. A lot of Snapchatters also see it as a danger that may compromise their account’s security. Some are already bothered by how Snapchat’s own chatbot responds to their conversations. There are even users who are calling out to Snapchat to delete My AI.

The negative feedback to My AI all boils down to one reason – That it’s terrifying
Users who have experienced using My AI have had similar problems. Almost all of them find it terrifying that My AI can trace your location. Although some users have their location services turned on, it still looks like somewhat of an “invasion of privacy”.
@evanpackardbusiness This is a bit concenring. The snapchat AI has explaining to do….. #artificialintelligence #snapchat #worldwarthree #concerning #liar #dogsoftiktok #greenscreen

It will only specify which city you live in and will not share any more information as My AI said “It does not have access to your exact location”. That is actually true since Snapchat has informed on their website that only a city-level location will be shared with My AI. However, some users are still left aghast with what this new chatbot can do. Indeed it’s pretty similar to ChatGPT, but is that really all? Now that it is included in the Snapchat app itself, it can find a lot of information about the user, not just their location. Further, the longer you converse with My AI, the better it will know things about you. But, if you do not like using the chatbot, you can always take this away from Snapchat.
