There have been sudden changes in Virat Kohli’s life within the last months. It started when he stepped down as both RCB’s captain and as T20 captain of India. Then, he was suddenly and unexpectedly removed by BCCI as ODI captain. After the South Africa series, Kohli decided to stand aside from his role as test captain as well.
Virat Kohli had taken over as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captaincy in 2013 from Daniel Vettori.
He remains the only cricketer in the IPL to have played for a single franchise since his debut when he joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2008 as a U19 player. Since then, he has been with the team, becoming captain in 2013 and leading the side for a decade.
His reasoning for stepping down as captain is simple. As an RCB captain, a lot of tension has to be assumed. He endured this for 5 long years, now he wants some time for his family too as his daughter is also growing.
Kohli revealed about quitting the captaincy on the RCB podcast and said:
“I’m not someone who holds onto things more than I should. Even if I know I can do a lot more, if I’m not going to enjoy the process, I’m not going to do it.
There’s nothing to be shocked about. I explain to people, I wanted some space and I wanted to manage my workload and the story ends there,” Kohli added.
This is obvious nobody does captaincy for a longer period of time. People and fans always expect something interesting from the captains and the players. But they don’t from which phase and difficulties the captain is going through.
