The first Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali will be a special one for the Viratians. Firstly BCCI has allowed a 50% audience crowd in the Mohali stadium for Virat’s 100th test.
Virat Kohli will become only the 12th Indian to play 100 Test matches on Friday and the former India captain can make the occasion even more special. Kohli is just 38 runs away from completing 8000 runs in the Test. He will become only the sixth Indian joining an elite list comprising great players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman.
It will be like a normal day for the skipper.
Moreover, when BCCI approached Virat to play the 100th Test match as a captain, he directly refused the proposal. He said that “one match makes no difference. That’s not how I am”. This shows his greatness.
If Virat scores 38 runs in the first Test match then he would become the fifth-fastest batsmen to score 8000 runs in the Test. He will be just behind Sachin Tendulkar (154 innings), Rahul Dravid (158 innings) Virender Sehwag (160 innings), and Sunil Gavaskar (166 innings). Kohli has so far batted in 168 innings.

However, Virat is in great search of runs from his bat.
In the last couple of years, questions have been raised on his form. He hasn’t scored a ton since the last two years. The last international hundred that he scored was back in November 2019 against Bangladesh.
In the last 5 Tests at home in 2021, Kohli has scored just 208 runs at an average of 26.00 which is the lowest in any calendar year at home.
But we shouldn’t forget what he had done in the 2017 Test series against Sri Lanka. He had amassed 610 runs in 3 Tests. It includes consecutive double tons (213 at Nagpur and 243 at Delhi). He had also registered three consecutive tons against Sri Lanka.
It is highly expected that Virat will make the day special for the audience.
