The way of the anime industry seems to be that of shifting between Wit and Mappa. From Attack on Titan who had to withdraw from the former and rely on the latter for their final season to Vinland Saga Season 2, we have come some way. Yesterday the official website of the anime series revealed Vinland Saga Season 2 trailer.
Vinland Saga was the Anime of the Year at the 6th Anime Trending Awards in 2019. Written by Makoto Yukimura, Vinland Saga season 2 will focus on the loose ends of Thorfinn’s journey from the mercenary and criminal world of Vikings.

Vinland Saga Season 2 will jump from WIT To Mappa
Twitter handle AnimeTV_JP had shared the news earlier that prime information was to be revealed today. Prior to this, the director had discussed the avenue of the shift from WIT to Mappa. Shuhei Yabuta did that using their Twitter account and said the following –
“It was my personal matter that I transferred to MAPPA, and our team had to leave the previous studio regardless of my transfer. The release of our team wasn’t planned in advance and at that point, we had already started production for season2 while keeping almost the same team.”

When does Vinland Saga Season 2 release?
The key information turned out to be the big reveal of the first trailer of the second season. The clip confirms the release date of Vinland Saga Season 2, which is January 2023.
Vinland Saga Season 2 simulcast announced by Crunchyroll
Other than the trailer, news came from the more western parts of the globe. Crunchyroll confirmed today that they have acquired simulcast streaming rights. Simulcast usually means that the anime will be released simultaneously on the streaming platform.
It is likely that the UK, North America, and South American nations will possibly see a simulcast from the get-go. The Asian nations may have to wait a while.
The returning staff in Vinland Saga Second Season
Other than Shuhei Yabuta, the staff includes Hiroshi Seko as a series composer, Yusuke Takeda as art director, Yuki Kawashita as photography director, Satoshi Hashimoto as a color designer, Abiru Takahiro as character designer and animation director, and Yutaka Yamada as music composer.

Vinland Saga manga began in 2005 and today stands strong with over 7 million copies in circulation. The anime debut happened back in 2019 and left fans awe-struck by the story of Thorfinn and Askeladd. The series’ official synopsis describes it in the following –
“As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and was thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father.
