Valorant’s Anti-Cheat Efforts, Current Status

Riot Games has been persistent in its efforts to prevent cheating on its games, particularly Valorant. Last year, it released an anti-cheat app, Vanguard, which proved quite controversial. Recently, it has been revealed by Riot that its efforts have been paying off.

  • When Vanguard was released, players were wary about the fact that the app auto-starts; that it ran in the background even when players were not playing Vanguard.
  • In response, Riot made it easier to disable Vanguard. However, it did not change its stance on the necessity of the anti-cheat app in order to play Valorant.
  • Now, it seems that the anti-cheat has actually been performing quite well over the past year and a half. This was detailed by anti-cheat analyst Matt “K3o” Paoletti in a report that was recently released.
  • While he acknowledges that cheaters will always be present in the game, he says that he would like to ensure that “cheating is never a viable way to long term competitive success in Valorant.”

“Despite what developers may say, the words “artificial intelligence” do not make a cheat undetectable. Not only that, we’re tackling unique forms of cheating outside of the typical aimbots, such as cheats that look to tamper with the game engine and assets… As of today, report rates are at an all-time low.”
– Matt “K30” Paoletti, Senior Anti-Cheat Analyst

K3o and his team are trying to prevent such “unique forms of cheating” in order to create a better overall environment for fans of Valorant. He also appeals to fans, saying that “your reports also help us close the gaps in our investigative coverage, and help us discover new threats. Keep those coming.” His statement that the reports of cheating are at an “all-time low” is also reassuring when it comes to the perception of anti-cheat apps.

Other developers have also been engaged in developing anti-cheat apps in order to prevent cheating. Activision-Blizzard has released Ricochet, a new anti-cheat software for Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard. The reception of the software has been more positive, all thanks to Riot who has pioneered the anti-cheat software among fans.
