UNIS Has The First Filipina Line In K-pop | Meet The Members

The Universe Ticket survival show just concluded and K-pop fans can’t stop talking about the newly formed girl group, UNIS. Interestingly, UNIS also has the first Filipina line in the K-pop industry, and if you want to know them, even for a bit, then you are in the right place. Also, let’s take a look at the debuting members of the girl group and all the other details about UNIS.

Who Is The Filipina Line In UNIS?

K-pop fans are used to seeing Japanese, Chinese, and even Thai lines in the industry. Filipinos have recently stepped into the K-pop culture, with LAPILLUS Chanty and MLD Entertainment’s HORI7ON. Now, three new Filipinos are debuting to be the first Filipina line in K-pop and the group UNIS.

After some months in Universe Ticket, the eight members of UNIS have been named and confirmed to debut together. As it aired its finale last January 17, a Filipina line was created, along with five other girl group members. Here are the three members you should watch out for, especially for Filipino K-pop fans out there!

  • Elisia (엘리시아)

Elisia is not only part of the first Filipina line in K-pop but also the first Filipino to rank first in a Korean survival show. The 2009-liner (yes, she is only 14 years old) is a cousin of HORI7ON’s maknae, Marcus. Despite her young age, Elisia proved to the viewers and the fans that she has what it takes to be a K-pop idol.

According to some facts circulating online about her, she was a former Starship Entertainment and Philippines’ Star Magic trainee. Their positions are yet to be known, so let’s wait for that to be announced!

  • Gehlee Dangca (젤리당카)

If you are not watching Universe Ticket, you probably saw her videos around stan Twitter or TikTok but don’t know her. Gehlee snatched the fourth overall spot in UNIS but garnered the most points among the other trainees. Her vocals and visuals are the most talked about strengths of Gehlee, so we have to wait for their official position announcement.

The 16-year-old Filipina may have less screen time during the survival show, but it goes to show that talent brings you a long way. She had been in many pageants, receiving titles, and also had a packed modeling experience. We can’t wait for the bright future ahead of this talented girl.

  • Jin Hyeonju (진현주)

Yes, she isn’t new to the K-pop world, but fans may have watched and heard her already. Jin Hyeonju was formerly in the group GOOD DAY and a cignature member with the stage name Belle. How is she one of the Filipina line? Hyeonju’s father is a Korean, while her mother is a Filipina, making her part of the first Filipina line in K-pop. She finished sixth in Universe Ticket and also became the eonni of UNIS.

The 2001-liner could take any position as she probably honed her skills in singing, dancing, and rapping from being active in the industry. Hyeonju is the oldest at 22 years old, yet she has a lot more to learn and her potential to be one of the loved K-pop idols is overflowing.

The Other UNIS Members You Should Know About

Aside from the Filipina line, UNIS has two Japanese and three Korean members in their lineup. In case you are unfamiliar with the members, here are their names and nationalities.

  • Nana (나나) – 1/2 of the Japanese line and is a 2007 liner. She’s the second oldest, next to Hyeonju (and yes, the age gap from their oldest to the other members is quite huge).
  • Kotoko (코토코) – 2/2 of the Japanese line, just months younger than Nana, so yes, she’s also a 2007 liner.
  • Bang Yunha (방윤하) – 1/3 of the Korean line, and a 2009 liner. UNIS has a really young lineup, though.
  • Oh Yoona (오윤아) – 2/3 and also a 2009 liner. The K-pop industry will have another Yoona, and hopefully, she’ll be loved by the fans, too!
  • Lim Seowon (임서원) – She completes the 3/3 of the Koreans, and also the group’s maknae. Seowon is a 2011 liner, so we hope that the agency and industry will take care of her well.

UNIS has yet to announce its official debut date, so we’ll have to patiently wait for them. We’re betting that fans can see them debut in the middle of this year, as they have to rest for a bit, before stepping into the limelight. We also hope that the Filipino line in K-pop gets to meet each other soon!
