Twinkling Watermelon Episode 16 Ending: Could There Be A Season 2?

We can’t help but get hooked on the time-slipping K-drama Twinkling Watermelon. The characters, the storyline’s twists and turns, and the life lessons were enough to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats every Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately, Twinkling Watermelon episode 16, AKA the ending, dropped last November 14, KST, and fans couldn’t help but miss the beloved characters. With a finish making the audience want more, would there be a season 2 ahead? Let’s find out!

Disclaimer: The article will include major spoilers from the finale episode. Reader’s discretion is advised.

Twinkling Watermelon And Its Shining Ending

After all the hardships that Ha Eun Gyeol went through, we can say that he got his happy ending. Of course, this ending also reaches his family, Ha Yi Chan, Yoon Cheong Ah, and Ha Eun Ho, and this is what they deserve. Unfortunately, Eun Gyeol’s time slip to 1995 will stay with his memories forever, including the accident that led to his father, Yi Chan’s deafness.

  • Despite this sad circumstance, On Eun Yu, Choi Se Kyung’s daughter, successfully encouraged Eun Gyeol to return to 2023 and to live their lives at present. Eun Gyeol may not have saved his father from the accident, but he indeed changed his mother’s, Cheong Ah, life. This led to the improvement of their family’s life when he returned at present.
  • Everything just fell right into place, better than their previous life. His parents are together, he and his brother Eun Ho are born, Cheong Ah and his father are on good terms, and Eun Gyeol is in a band, continuing music that he truly loves.

The ending made sure that everyone had their twinkling years of youth and spent their adult years with each other still. Yi Chan’s former bandmates have remained in contact with the couple, and Ma Joo pursued his managing career and now handles SHINE9, Eun Gyeol’s band.

With this almost-perfect and twinkling ending, is there an opening for a season 2?

Can The Ending Open to Another Twinkling Season?

In complete honesty, it is the most fitting ending that every character deserves. Hoping for a Season 2 may be a shot in the dark since they entirely tied the series to the Twinkling Watermelon episode 16 ending. We’re betting this series would remain a single season, with all its 16 episodes.

  • The finale may have closed the loose ends in some parts, but we somehow felt it was rushed. Some viewers also noticed how things passed by quickly right after Eun Gyeol and Eun Yu came back in 2023.

  • Some pointed out that it may have looked rushed, but then again, the series revolves around Eun Gyeol’s point of view. Since he decided to return to 2023 after Yi Chan’s accident, it makes sense that things that would happen afterwards — the year 1995 without Eun Gyeol and forward — would not be shown.

If you’re one of the viewers who wished more, what else have you thought that could happen? Here’s what we wanted to see happen!

What Stories Left Fans Hanging From Twinkling Watermelon Episode 16

We sure loved the happy ending that this newest healing K-drama gave us, but we can’t help but wonder about a few more empty plot lines. Let’s get into what we hope to see more, and maybe we can get a few special episodes. tvN, please make it happen!

  • All hail to the 2Eun (Eun Gyeol and Eun Yu) shippers! At the Twinkling Watermelon episode 16 ending, we saw that the two met and shared a kiss after Eun Gyeol ran after Eun Yu at the end of their band performance. The latter seemed happy; however, it left fans interested in how it turned out for Eun Yu and her family. Did her mother and her mom’s biological father have the time to meet again? Did Eun Yu’s parents pursue their pending divorce? Is she still playing cello because that’s what her adoptive parents want her, or she’s freely doing what she wants now?

  • Another loose end that we wish to have seen more was the CheongChan couple. In Twinkling Watermelon episode 16 ending, we learn that Yi Chan and Cheong Ah attended tertiary education at the same school, Gallaudet University. We missed the opportunity to see the couple study together and enjoy themselves until they reach their successful 2023 selves. Give more CheongChan content to us, please!

With all these loose ends, we hope to hear if tvN can give a few special episodes to answer these questions. It may not be a season 2, but special clips or episodes would be the best for Twinkling Watermelon fans! So, if you haven’t watched the K-drama Twinkling Watermelon, you can still catch it on Viu and Viki! Viva la vida, Twinkling fans!
