Chris Lewis on Tricycle scam in manila

Famous YouTuber and travel vlogger Chris Lewis has been going around the world to see different cultures and various types of people. Recently, Lewis went on a trip to one of the best countries in Southeast Asia – the Philippines. However, he would be met by a con artist just a few days after landing on Philippine soil.

Viral now: Travel vlogger Chris Lewis gets scammed by a Filipino tricycle driver

While traversing the busy streets of Manila, Chris Lewis tried one of the simplest forms of transportation in the Philippines – the tricycle. Just like Bangkok’s famous TukTuk, this three-wheeled vehicle can go from different parts of the city and even to the narrowest avenues. On September 24, Chris Lewis posted a video of him trying out the Filipino tricycle as his way to get into his hotel.

Everything seemed to be going well as he and the driver had a kind interaction. The journey began with the Colorado-based YouTuber trying to get to know the motorist, just like what he does with other people he previously interacted with. As seen in the video, both have initially agreed to a ₱50 fare ($0.9). However, after reaching his destination (which feels just like a three-minute drive or about a kilometer), the Filipino tricycle driver demanded a ₱550 ($9.65) payment. More than ten times what they initially agreed upon. The mood quickly changed and Lewis was suddenly disgruntled. Although it was wrong, Lewis still paid the man but told him not to do it again. Needless to say, this scam definitely disappointed the American vlogger.

Filipinos react to Chris Lewis’s experience with the tricky scam

The video that Chris Lewis has since gone viral and caught the attention of many Filipinos. In just a matter of days, the video has received thousands of views and reactions.  Because of this mischievous and malicious act, Pinoy netizens apologized on behalf of the said tricycle driver. On the bright side, Chris Lewis saw how hospitable Filipinos are and even got the chance to taste Filipino dishes for less than $1!

Meanwhile, Chris Lewis had the chance to meet other Filipinos. Of course, not everyone from the Philippines is a scammer. The people from this country are famously known for being extremely hospitable, friendly, kind, and joyful. Even amidst the most difficult of times, Filipinos still find a way to smile and laugh.

One more thing that perfectly defines the true Filipino culture is … THE FOOD! Yes, Philippine street food is a must-try for all foreign visitors. Fortunately for Lewis, he was able to try the world-famous Kwek-Kwek (fried quail orange) that only cost ₱4 ($0.07) each! Right now, Chris Lewis is still in the Philippines. Where do you think he’s going next?
