Lia Thomas participated in swimming competitions as a member of the men’s swim team at the University of Pennsylvania. However, the athlete underwent a gender transition which made her eligible for women’s events, where she was drastically more successful. The swimmer, who competed as a male for three years, requested President Joe Biden to safeguard the rights of trans athletes.
Earlier, Piers Morgan criticized Rep. Katie Porter for her comments against Riley Gaines, an All-American swimmer. Gaines has been actively involved in the efforts to prevent trans athletes from participating in women’s sports.
Appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Riley Gaines asked a rhetorical question, stating that Lia Thomas had expressed her sadness at trans kids missing out on opportunities. Gaines then asked whether Thomas would feel the same sadness if the word “woman” replaced “trans kids” and if women were the ones losing out on opportunities.

The trans swimmer responded to women who oppose her participation in women’s sports. She openly accused them of being too afraid to fully acknowledge their implicit bias. She also claimed that they were fake feminists, pretending to be only partially supportive.
Lia Thomas appeared on Schuyler Bailar’s podcast Dear Schuyler to discuss the controversy around transgender female athletes competing in women’s sports. She referred to her former teammates as insincere feminists who use the guise of supporting women to promote transphobic values.
