In every ranking article or listicle, it’s always very difficult to get every fan, viewer, and analyst alike to agree. Rankings are based solely on varying opinions, and others might just not like what they see. Now, we’re unveiling the top 5 most overrated NBA players in the 2023-2024 season so far. Hopefully, your favorite man isn’t on this list.
5. Trae Young
Atlanta Hawks superstar point guard Trae Young was selected as the most overrated NBA player in 2023 in one of The Athletics’ polls this year. As overrated as he is, we’re only going to put him in the 5th place for the sole reason he’s still playing at an All-Star level this season.
We asked NBA players who the most overrated player in the league was.
The leading vote-getter?
Trae Young.

Drafted alongside Luka Doncic, it was already destined that these two electrifying guards would rival each other. It did turn out that way during their early years, but Doncic has gone far since that. On the other hand, Trae, despite being extremely fun to watch with his amazing passes and long threes, is a defensive liability for the Hawks. He’s also gone on to become super inefficient and is now a volume scorer who likes taking questionable shots. Regardless, Trae Young is still considered an All-NBA caliber player today.
4. Deandre Ayton
“Domin-Ayton” a.k.a Deandre Ayton is basically one of the most gifted players in the league. He’s 7 feet tall, has the physique to beat opponents in the paint, and can leap higher than most centers. Unfortunately, the former first-overall pick hasn’t really shown what he is truly capable of.

He just agreed to a $132 million contract earlier this year, but is he really worth that much money? Well, if only he can be as dominant as he says he is, there’s no denying he can be in the same sentence as Bam Adebayo, Joel Embiid, and Nikola Jokic. On the bright side, on a good day, Ayton can put up 18 and 10, which is exceptional for a center.
3. Jordan Poole
Former Golden State Warriors star Jordan Poole had some flashes of greatness in the last couple of seasons. He was essential to their championship title run in 2022 and was even considered the second-best player on that squad.

However, his style of play would be deemed a problem to the Dubs, marking the end of his career in Golden State. Now, as a new member of the Washington Wizards, he’s shown nothing but to be a complete disappointment. Prior to the disaster he’s having this season, Poole was considered to be a borderline All-Star who’s averaging 20 points a game. Well, that turned out to be an overstatement, to say the least.
2. Austin Reaves
People will burn us to the ground, but Austin Reaves isn’t as good as Lakers fans think he is. He is a skilled scorer, but he’s just getting immense fame because he’s in Los Angeles and is playing alongside LeBron James.

Don’t get this hot take wrong, we’re not hating on Reaves. He’s not overrated because he can’t hoop, he’s overrated because there are guys who play just like him or even better who don’t get their much-deserved recognition. Just a piece of evidence that Reaves is ridiculously overrated is that ESPN ranked him 66th in the top 100 players heading into the 2023-2024 season while players like Russell Westbrook (94th), Buddy Hield (87th), Tyler Herro (79th), Jordan Clarkson (77th), and even the Point God Chris Paul (76th) are ranked significantly lower than him. The only thing that separates him from the others is, again, the bright lights of L.A. and Bron.
1. Gabe Vincent
After 10 games into the 2023-2024 season, it’s clear that Gabe Vincent is extremely overrated. He was making noise last year after a nice 2022-2023 regular season and playoffs run with the Miami Heat. It was even more interesting that he went undrafted and turned out to be an important piece in Miami. If any, Jimmy Butler and the Heat secured his chances of being paid huge money.
But, he wasn’t that guy anymore after signing a $33 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023-2024 season. Right now, he’s shooting 7.1% from the three-point line, 7.1%!
