Hell’s Paradise is a very intense anime with solid characters. Considering its main protagonist Gabimaru the Hollow, the series contains intense characters with impeccable criminal minds.
Since the criminals are the main essence of this anime, let’s find out the top 5 criminals in Hell’s Paradise that keep the fans stirred to their seats.
Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku criminal characters that have won fan’s hearts
5) Chobei Aza – The Bandit King

Chobei Aza has been the bandits’ leader from a young age. He is one of the criminals who will join Gabimaru the Hollow on their journey to find the Elixir of Life along with the Yamada Asaemon clan.
Chobei Aza is the bandit leader who established his powerful role in a village of bandits under the Iyo province. He has no moral bounds for murdering individuals and is extremely violent. Further, he is very provocative and responsible for several charges of murder, theft, robbery, assault, and extortion.
4) Yuzuriha- The Kunoichi

Yuzuriha is another one of the vicious and villainous characters in Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. A year preceding the expedition to find the Elixir of Life, she was involved in the invasion of Sagiwa castle. However, was captured and apprehended for this heinous crime before she was assigned this expedition.
Even though Yuzuriha is exceptionally beautiful and soft-spoken, one mustn’t mistake her for her compassion and beauty. She is a strong villainous character with a manipulative knack that helps her to get the job done.
Yuzuriha uses complex ninja techniques for keeping herself alive on the island. Despite looking and acting like a “sweetheart” on the island, Yuzuriha is overly solipsistic and only works on things that cater to her needs. She always agrees to the terms that would aid her in the long run.
3) Ganetsusai Tamiya: The Sword Dragon

Also going by the alias the Sword Dragon, Ganetsusai is a master swordsman. He is a boisterous man who is always looking for a potent challenge to brush up his skills.
Ganetsusai is a renowned warrior who is known for his durability and strength on the battlefield. He was sentenced to death for destroying the gate of a daimyo he worked for. Even though Ganetsusai is a slow learner and is not the brightest one in the lot, he still is one of the dangerous criminals venturing on this mission.
2) Nurugai

Even though Nurugai is considered to be the most innocent among the lot, she’s remarkably intuitive and headstrong. Despite her young age, she rejected the community rule of Tokugawa Shogunate and was imprisoned accidentally.
This led the samurai to destroy her village making her more hostile. She became adamant and kept hunting villages unless an Asaemon took her in and gave her a choice to join the expedition in the quest for the Elixir of Life.
Unlike Gabimaru, Yuzuriha, and Chobei, Nurugai is a very uncompromising and practical person who chooses to fight for the greater good that would benefit her. She’s a strong individual without manipulative power as such and is selfish for her gains.
1) Gabimaru the Hollow

Addressing the elephant in the room, of course, the protagonist of the anime tops the list. Gabimaru has gone through a traumatic past with a tinge of happiness that persisted in his life.
He is one of the greatest ninjas in Iwagakure. However, he was betrayed by his fellow ninjas for becoming way too sentimental and emotional. Gabimaru joins the expedition to find the Elixir of Life to return to his wife and live a simple life.
Despite being shrewd and criminal-minded, Gabimaru has a hint of goodness in him that makes him different from all the other people joining the expedition. He is extremely intelligent and intuitive. He can analyze any dangerous situation at a go and come up with a constructive solution to save himself and his teammates. Gabimaru is very ambitious, driven, and desperate to return to his wife once it all ends.
In conclusion
Despite the flawed character in Hell’s Paradise, they are the ones who are leading the entire series on their backs. These criminals constitute the main parts of the series and their character analysis is a fine example of how all of them are different from one another, yet fighting for the same goal: freedom.
