TikTok: Who is Dr Roxy? Loses medical license over Viral Livestreams

TikTok Dr Roxy medical license viral live streams

TikTok’s Dr Roxy is not a doctor anymore after the State Medical Board of Ohio permanently revoked her medical license due to her viral livestreams. The plastic surgeon had some serious allegations leveled against her for prioritizing her social media presence over patient care. She often live-streamed surgical procedures on TikTok, contributing to a negligent medical process. Let’s take a look at the cases against Dr. Roxy and understand why she lost her medical license.

Ohio board revokes Dr. Roxy’s medical license

The State Medical Board of Ohio voted unanimously to revoke Dr. Roxy’s medical license permanently. The official reason they cited is her neglect of patients and her life-altering mistakes during the viral TikTok livestreams.

The board was concerned that Dr. Roxy focused primarily on her social media followers. This often led to a detrimental impact on her patients’ well-being and reflected a failure to meet standards of care.

Board members emphasized that the outcome of the case was not about an outdated view of social media. Clearly, the priority here was patients’ trust in Dr. Roxy due to her online persona.

The attorney representing the state’s case against the doctor described how Dr. Roxy made major life-threatening surgeries seem like ‘a party’ on her social media platform. She completed ethics and social media classes and continued to livestream surgeries.

Cases against Dr. Roxy’s viral TikTok livestreams

Dr. Roxy has multiple incidents that went down against her favor, which led to her losing her medical license. For instance, one of her patients experienced severe complications from a cosmetic surgery that Dr Roxy live-streamed to her more than 800,000 followers.

As a result, the patient suffered a perforated intestine, leading to bacterial infections in her abdomen and loss of brain function due to toxins in her blood. Other examples include complications from similar cosmetic procedures like liposuction and Brazilian butt lift.

The Ohio Medical Board used such incidents to prove Dr. Roxy’s recklessness and disregard for her patients’ privacy and safety.

Previously, a former patient of Dr. Roxy named Mary Jenkins had won a lawsuit against her for a botched breast reconstruction surgery. Jenkins was present at the hearing as she celebrated the verdict in tears.

Who is Dr Roxy, and how did she defend herself?

Dr. Roxy, whose real name is Katharine Roxanne Grawe, addressed the allegations against her and appealed to the board members to have an open mind. She believes she has already faced worse disciplinary actions than she had expected.

She claimed that her children faced harassment in school and that her husband had left her. Dr Roxy explained that the true intention of her TikTok livestreams was to educate followers about cosmetic surgery.

The plastic surgeon admitted that she fell short of the board’s ideals and recognized that some videos were unprofessional. Despite appearing careless and offending patients and colleagues, she said she wanted to bridge the gap between patients and doctors.

The outcome of the hearing led to viral reactions on social media. Dr Roxy’s defense was clearly insufficient to justify her actions and save her face from the public.
