The release of Threads shows that Mark Zuckerberg is eyeing to create an undisputed empire within the social media space. His newly released platform will look to provide direct competition to the giant Twitter, bought by Elon Musk in early 2022.
The social media application was released on July 6, 2023, at 10:00 AM ET. Just two days prior, Twitter was facing various outages and malfunction issues as reported by its users. Thus, the timing of Threads’ release is impeccable and certainly a well-thought-out move to edge out the competition.
What is Threads?

Threads is a new social media platform under the wing of Meta. It will be directly linked to Instagram, and you must be an Instagram user to gain access. The platform’s focus is to share short text-based posts with an additional feature to attach photos, videos (up to 5 minutes), and links in a user’s posts.
We know some of you may have experienced issues replying to Tweets on web. Things should be working normally now. Sorry for the trouble!

Lately, it is evident that a large number of Twitter audiences are unhappy with both its functional and regulatory policies. On top of that, there are recurring technical issues already mentioned before. There lies the possibility of a large chunk of that consumer group migrating to the newly created Threads.
Key Features of Threads
We are listing some of the key features within Threads to provide a better understanding of the app.
- You will need an Instagram account to operate Threads. It will carry your user data from that profile into the new platform. There will be interconnection between both platforms, and they will share each other’s elements.
- You can customize your account specifically for Threads once logged in.
- You can use 500 words in a single post, which is significantly greater than Twitter’s limit (for those not subscribed to Twitter Blue).
- You can also post videos up to 5 minutes long.

- You can filter out words you don’t want to see, and the app will censor posts containing those words.
- Threads will automatically provide a private account to users below the age of 16 or the age of 18 in some cases, depending on their country.
- Keep in mind that Threads is only available for iOS and Android, and you can download the application for free from the App Store and Google Play Store.
- This means that no web version is available as of now. This can restrict you from using it on a PC or laptop. We might see Threads having web and desktop versions in the future.
Can you have multiple accounts in Threads?
This is a question many users have had on their minds since the announcement of the new platform, especially because Instagram allows a user to create and switch between five accounts seamlessly without having to log out. However, it doesn’t look like this feature will be coming to Threads anytime soon..

Although you can technically have multiple accounts on Threads, the process won’t be easy, like switching from one Instagram account to the next. You have to log out and then log into the new account you want to use in Threads to do this.
Since Meta seems to be testing the waters with Threads, they might add this feature as a quality-of-life update in the coming days. For now, you have to do the slightly tedious process first.
