The Oscar Nomination Snubs of 2022

The 2022 Oscar nominations are in, and many great films didn’t make it, as the tradition goes. While there were some surprise entrants this year, the votes told how some performances weren’t worthy of a chance at the trophy. With awards season set to roll in even after news of COVID surges, many are excited to see who’ll take home the crown this year. We’ll focus on those who could’ve been and the films that should’ve made their mark.

One of the storylines in this year’s Oscars is the industry’s recognition of good sci-fi films. Dune captured ten nominations in the announcement. The film received critical praise during its run, with many noting how the adaptation stayed true to its literary source.

However, the visionary behind it, Denis Villeneuve, didn’t even get a nod for a Best Director nomination. It seems unusual that they would snub the man who brought the project together.

Despite the mixed reception for House of Gucci, there were some notable performances. Many noted how Lady Gaga and Jared Leto were missing from their respective actor nominations. The two carried most of the film, but it seemed that its critical reception was what released the guillotine towards their chances. The only nomination the film received was for Makeup and Hairstyling.

Despite praise from critics and box-office records set, superhero films continue to be a sensitive topic for the Oscars. Superheroes have made waves in the past, with the most notable being Black Panther. They did give it something by nominating it for Best Visual Effects, but nothing else. With such a great movie ignored, people question the event’s legitimacy.
