The Naruto Spin-off Manga miniseries was very needed to tell Sasuke’s story

When perturbed by the alluring time skip between the end of Naruto Shippuden and the beginning of Boruto’s storyline, the fans sought out the very redeeming stories of the Naruto Spin-Off Shinden Series. (Including Sasuke Shinden: Book of Sunrise). The Shinden chronology was a series of stories created by different authors but illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It told various tales of the different aspects of the Naruto universe. Few such contained the story of Sasuke’s journey post-war when he redeemed his dark side. That was back in 2015.

Later in 2019 came another series named Sasuke Retsuden: The Uchiha Descendants and the Heavenly Stardust. This was an original story written by author Jun Esaka and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. This Sasuke spin-off remains one of the most popular additions to the spin-off stories of the Naruto franchise. Sasuke Retsuden focuses on Sasuke after his marriage to Sakura when a disease struck Naruto Uzumaki. Together with Kakashi sensei, Sasuke must now infiltrate Astronomy Research Institute.

The story follows post-war circumstances where Naruto falls ill due to some charka-blocking disease which is the autoimmune equivalent of the Anime world. We are also introduced to the lands of Redaku where lies the Astronomy Research Institute. It was enacted to be the world’s best during the times of The Sage of Six Paths.

At the present, the facility is instead used as a prison for Redaku’s most unhinged criminals. The chapter does not begin by initiating Naruto’s conditions but from right on starts with a character killer-convict criminal who plans on climbing the prison walls. Despite the Batman-Ishq inclinations he feels afraid to do it alone and finds a little accomplice in another prisoner with dark black hair that covers his one eye. Sasuke Uchiha is no stranger to the readers as he confronts the varying abominations within the facility in search of a cure for his best friend’s sickness.

The Naruto Shinden series contained multiple spin-off light novels including a Sasuke one. The Sasuke Retsuden is more recent work and not the same as Sasuke Shinden: Book of Sunrise. Konoha Shinden however is a more friendly leisure time story retelling of Kakashi and Might Guy taking a vacation. The two are one of the strongest shinobis in the world and deserve a break of their own. Yet despite their prowess, Kakashi feels weary of taking time off.

The story’s center point is Naruto after being crowned the 7th Hokage. Naruto Uzumaki convenes the five Kage summit. We see a glimpse of Kakashi feeling relieved that his most notoriously hyperactive student is now capable of leading the world’s top leaders into a collected convention.

The world really deserved more of Naruto’s story post-war. The various Shinden light novels and other spin-off series do exactly that – they serve as a continuation of the Naruto Shippuden storyline. Still, there are very few works detailing what transpires between the end of the Fourth Shinobi War and the beginning of Naruto The Last film.

As of now, we can piece everything together, albeit only in a very segmented way through Boruto and the Naruto Spin-Offs. If you ask me we deserve a proper series that explores what Naruto did post-war and incorporates Sasuke’s journey into it as well. But that’s me, what do you think? let us know in the comment section down below.
