The 2023 NBA All-Star captains, starters, and reserves are all set for the All-Star weekend on February 19, 2023. With some names receiving the proper credit they deserve after getting selected for the first time in their career, there are also other players that didn’t get the nod. Let’s take a look at five of the biggest all-star snubs this season and why they should have been an All-Star this year.
5. Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler got the monicker “Jimmy Buckets” with his ability to score the basket. Not only is he a good offensive weapon, but he is also a prolific defender.
Although he is still undeniably the leader of the Miami Heat and is still producing reliable numbers, he wasn’t named an all-star this year. However, his teammate, Bam Adebayo, was selected as an all-star reserve in the East.
2022-2023 Stats: 21.7 PPG, 4.9 APG, 5.9 RPG (29-24 record)

4. De’Aaron Fox
Why can’t De’Aaron Fox be an All-Star this season? He’s putting up huge numbers and he and Sabonis are leading the Sacramento Kings to possible playoff contention. It’s clear to see that Fox gets overlooked every season. Plus, If they secure a spot, it will be the first time since 2006 that the Kings will get to play in the playoffs
Domantas Sabonis was selected to the All-Star team, but his co-star, DFox was far from it. Despite his monster performances and consistent output, the real culprit behind Fox’s elusive All-Star selection is maybe because West is stacked with extremely talented guards. Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and Chris Paul are just a few that comes to mind. He would have to be better than at least one of them to qualify for the All-Star game.
2022-2023 Stats: 24.3 PPG, 6.1 APG, 4.3 RPG (29-21 record, 3rd in the West)
3. Trae Young
Trae Young isn’t considered a top 5 point guard in the league today but he is for sure an All-Star caliber player. Just last year, Young was the starting point guard for Team Durant. But, this season, he falls behind Eastern Conference guards like Tyrese Haliburton, Kyrie Irving, Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Demar DeRozan, and Jrue Holiday.
The Atlanta Hawks aren’t a contender and they are having a hard time staying on the 8th seed so far. Regardless, Trae is playing magnificently as the sole superstar of the team. Although he is not in the same conversation as the guy in his draft class (Luka Doncic), he is already right up there as one of the best point guards in the league today.
2022-2023 Stats: 27.0 PPG, 9.9 APG, 2.9 RPG (26-26 record)

2. James Harden
Surprisingly, The Beard did not make the All-Star team this season. James Harden, who averages 11 assists per game this season leads the league in total assists by being the primary floor general of the Philadelphia 76ers.
His co-star, Joel Embiid, made the team as a reserve in the East but Harden’s play this year wasn’t recognized. Despite his amazing yet quiet output this year, nobody seems to have noticed the Sixers, or Harden for that matter.
2022-2023 Stats: 21.4 PPG, 11 APG, 6.4 RPG (33-17 record, 3rd in the East)
1. Anthony Davis
And finally, the biggest snub on our list is no other than Los Angeles Lakers star forward/center, Anthony Davis. Indeed Davis missed a lot of games due to nagging injuries, which could be the reason why he is not an all-star this year.
The guy can’t seem to catch a break every time he steps on the floor. However, when healthy, the Lakers can count on AD. In 29 games played in the 2022-2023 season, AD is putting up a double-double average of 27 and 12. It’s crazy to think that a power forward who has averages lower than AD is named as an All-Star starter (*cough* Zion *cough*).
2022-2023 Stats: 26.9 PPG, 2.6 APG, 12 RPG (25-28 record)
