Instead of getting news about how far along the devs are after two years of working on it, anything connected to the Star Wars KOTOR remake has been removed from the face of the Internet. With the Star Wars KOTOR remake trailer gone, it’s led fans to speculate that the highly anticipated remake is canceled.
There seems to be trouble in paradise over at Sony as more and more unexpected things happen with each day that passes. We’ve witnessed Sony being targeted by a ransomware attack, Jim Ryan announcing his retirement, and Gaming Heads allegedly being ordered to destroy collectibles based on popular PlayStation franchises. Now, eagle-eyed gamers have noticed that Sony has made the Star Wars KOTOR remake trailer disappear.
What happened to the Star Wars KOTOR remake trailer?
The remake was first announced two years ago during the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase. However, there was little to no update about the Star Wars KOTOR remake since then, making fans speculate from time to time that the project had been scrapped. Of course, there were those hopeful that the devs, Embracer Group’s Saber Interactive, were tirelessly working on giving the KOTOR experience a revamp to cater to a new generation of gamers.
When clicking on the link to the trailer for the Star Wars KOTOR remake, we get redirected to an error page that says the video is no longer available.
Since the KOTOR remake is a big deal for many, they would naturally want occasional updates about how the game was coming along. Aside from the trailer, the official PlayStation account also deleted the announcement tweet they put out in 2021.
The deleted tweet was posted on September 9, 2021. The only way to view it is by using the Wayback Machine, which you can access through this link. If we look through PlayStation’s Twitter/X account, the only mention left of the Star Wars KOTOR remake is in the post below.
Stay tuned after the Showcase! We’ll have more updates from the teams behind:
🔵 God of War Ragnarök
🔵 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake
🔵 Updates on other new PlayStation Studios titles— PlayStation (@PlayStation) September 9, 2021
It’s unclear whether the Star Wars KOTOR remake trailer has been permanently deleted or if PlayStation has just made the video private. Still, it’s enough to worry fans who were more than looking forward to seeing the remake come to life.
Fans are met with radio silence
Now that most fans are talking about the possible cancelation of the Star Wars KOTOR remake, there have been no statements from Sony or Embracer Group. Jeff Grubb, one of the most renowned insiders in the video game industry, also shared his thoughts about whether the KOTOR remake will ever see the light of day.

During the Game Mess Decides livestream back in May, a viewer asked the hosts which remake would be released first: KOTOR or Prince of Persia?
Grubb reveals that although Ubisoft didn’t mention a Prince of Persia remake in their lineup for the next fiscal year, it still has a high chance of releasing first before the KOTOR remake. He ends his answer by confidently stating: “I don’t think it will ever come out,” referring to the Star Wars title.
Is the remake canceled?
There’s no definite answer to whether or not the project is canceled. However, with the Star Wars KOTOR remake trailer gone along with other posts announcing the game, one can’t help but think that it’s joined the graveyard of other scrapped video game titles.

It can be remembered that Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors chose not to comment on the remake’s development back in May, leading many to believe that the studio won’t be moving forward with anything related to KOTOR. This is unfortunate news for anyone waiting for the game to come out, but alas, such is life.
We can redirect our focus instead on another PS5 exclusive coming real soon: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is swinging in hot later this October. Feel free to let us know your thoughts on the Star Wars KOTOR remake potentially being canceled in the comments below.
