Stand by You, a visual novel released in 2015 for mobile devices, finally comes to Sony PS5 and other consoles. After finally hitting their crowdfunding goal of 500,000 Japanese Yen, Water Phoenix is successfully bringing Stand by You to the PS5, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch.
Of course, the team behind the game is also introducing reworks to the game’s visuals. Here’s everything you need to know about Stand by You’s console release scheduled for fall this year.
Stand by You hosted a successful crowdfunding campaign to bring the visual novel to major consoles like the PS5
In February of this year, Water Phoenix announced that they are hosting a crowdfunding campaign for their hit visual novel Stand by You. The purpose of the campaign is to release a version of the visual novel to consoles like the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
However, things seem to be looking up for the developers as they are successful in raising enough funds to release the visual novel on three different consoles. The console port of Stand by You is coming this fall of 2022. But the catch is, this will only be available in Japan.
If all goes well, the game might see an international release on consoles like the PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. But this fall, it’s expected that the release is exclusive for players residing in Japan.
For those who already played through the visual novel when it released in 2015 and 2017, there will be new elements to the console ports. In their crowdfunding campaign, Water Phoenix explained that they are asking for 500,000 Japanese Yen because of improvements they are making to the visual novel.
But the main improvement they made in the console port has something to do with the visuals. Since the game was released back in 2015, the visuals aren’t all there. However, they have provided examples of Stand by You looks like once it’s successfully ported to consoles.
Check out the images below. The pictures on the left are from the 2015 release while the ones on the right are what’s coming to the console port of Stand by You:

What is the visual novel all about?
Stand by You is not entirely a game and as indicated, it is a visual novel. What this means is if you purchase it, you won’t be able to actually play the game itself. The only thing you can do is sit back and relax as the visual novel and its story unfolds.
It’s not for gamers who want in on the action and the developers also revealed that you can finish the visual novel in about three to five hours. Moreover, you won’t have much of a choice in what happens throughout Stand by You.
Most reviews on Steam praise it for its rich storytelling and plotline. The only problem they saw with the game was the translation. Since this is a game which first released in Japan, the English translations available on Steam are rough.

Hopefully, Stand by You on consoles will do great once it releases this fall. If it does, there’s a high chance that Water Phoenix makes the visual novel available in other regions and maybe other platforms, too.
And if it does get an international release, we can only hope that the translations have improved since the game itself is beautiful. Pair the visuals with a great story and we guarantee that Stand by You is worth sitting through.
There is no specific release date yet for Stand by You. But since Water Phoenix was able to hit their goal in their crowdfunding campaign, we can expect Stand by You not later than fall of this year.
