Xbox players really hit the jackpot when the voice chat feature on Discord became available on the console. Now, it looks like Discord voice chat is also making its way onto the Sony PlayStation 5! It’s definitely something to look forward to ever since Discord announced that they are looking to integrate these features on consoles like the PlayStation 5. Stay with us to find out everything we know so far about Discord voice chat integration with the PS5!
Once this feature is available to every player, it will be easier to hop on games that require cross-play. You’ll be able to easily communicate with friends on games like Warzone regardless of whether they have a PlayStation 5, an Xbox, or a PC.
What we know about Discord voice chat on Sony PlayStation 5 so far
Xbox was the first to receive this feature on its consoles. At the moment, the feature is still being tested on the PlayStation 5 but we now have an updated look at Discord voice chat on Sony’s console. The screenshots come from a Twitter user called “advaith” who is known for posting Discord updates.

- The screenshots are from the mobile version of Discord. Although there may be some readers out there who are skeptical about this, it all looks legit. Over the weekend, a Redditor also shared screenshots of their own Discord app with this feature
- The second screenshot from Twitter user advaith shows that although you can connect your PS4 with Discord, it doesn’t have the voice chat function. Unlike on the PS5, you can only display what game you’re playing if you’re on the PS4. At the moment, there is no word from Discord on whether this feature will also be available to the previous-gen console
- Lastly, you’ll obviously need your PlayStation account linked with Discord. By doing so, your PlayStation ID will be displayed along with your gaming activity
- The voice chat feature is the only thing we’re missing on the PS5 right now after Discord already made it possible to show what game you’re currently playing
When can we expect this feature to arrive?
At the moment, we haven’t received any updates from Discord or Sony about this feature coming soon. We did, however, get information from a certain Tom Henderson. For those of you who don’t know, Henderson is a pretty reliable leaker, especially when it comes to things like this.
When the Discord voice chat feature on the PlayStation 5 was announced earlier this year, Henderson revealed the possible release date. According to him, Discord integration on the PS5 is coming on March 8, 2023.
And just like that, the release date of 7.00 gets updated to March 8th, 2023. ðŸ¤
Version 6.00 is September 7th, 2022.
So Discord integration on the PS5 is March 8th, 2023 (if nothing else changes).

Discord integration will be part of a system update for the PlayStation 5. With that March 2023 release date, it will surely be a while before we get to enjoy this feature on our consoles. For now, all we can do is wait and settle for the PS Party system for comms. But if you’re playing with friends on different consoles, you may want to stick with running Discord on your phone or your PC while you’re gaming.
Unfortunately, PS4 owners are left in the dust this time. Maybe it’s finally time to consider getting a PS5, especially with the holidays just around the corner.Â
