Knowing how to obtain a shovel in Sons of the Forest can take you a long way in the survival horror game. Given that it is an open-world multiplayer game, there are plenty of items buried and waiting to be discovered on the map. However, speaking in terms of common sense, you need something to literally dig up the places and get those items. What you need is a shovel.
Finding a shovel is not that straightforward in Endnight Games’ Sons of the Forest. It cannot be fashioned from a bunch of sticks. Instead, you need to take up an adventurous mission to obtain it. First, you will have to make your way to a particular cave system where you can find the shovel. After following a series of steps to get it, you need to know how to exit the cave and make it back in one piece. Let’s find out how.
How to get the shovel from the cave
- The first step to get the shovel in Sons of the Forest is to locate the cave system. The cave is found near the edge of a stream, close to the central mountain of the island.
- Enter the cave, grab the spare Air Canister from the ledge and use the rope gun to ride the zipline above the drop. To reach the underwater tunnel that will take you to the location, dive into the water. When you resurface, you will have to fight past five Cave Cannibals.
- Collect the Wetsuit from the ground and harvest the Creepy Armor from the Cave Cannibals if you don’t have one. You will have to kill two more Cave Cannibals before sliding down another pool.
- The path you should follow will be lit up. Follow it and loot containers along the way. In this path, you will encounter more Cave Cannibals, Mutant Babies, Fingers and Twins to fight.
- As you keep progressing, you will notice a lot of corpses suspended from the ceiling. Finally, once you fight past all your enemies after resurfacing, you can collect the Shovel from the worker’s corpse at the cavern’s end.
Things you require before finding the shovel
In order to find the shovel in the survival horror game Sons of the Forest, there are some prerequisites to progress through the cave system that we mentioned. Players need a rebreather, rope gun, air tank, and explosives before venturing into the cave to find the shovel. Use the map here to find these items beforehand.
While the air tank is optional since there are some inside the cave itself, the explosives are a must-have to make your way out of the cave after getting the shovel. Having a powerful early weapon like a Stun Gun is also recommended as the cave is home to Cave Cannibals and Mutant Babies.
Getting out of the cave in Sons of the Forest
After finding the shovel in Sons of the Forest, retrace your steps back into the cave till the point where you looted the containers. Here, you will notice part of the cave’s wall on the side burst open and a Sluggy mutant is stuck in this gap.
Use the explosives to kill the Sluggy and make your way past the other enemies in the cave. Now, you can use the shovel as you wish on your missions in the Steam game.
