Sonic Frontiers: What we know so far + Leaks

Sonic Frontiers - What we know so far - Cover

Sonic Frontiers is gearing up to be Sega’s latest big-time project as the video game company showcased the trailer for the game yesterday. In the days leading up to the trailer, there have been a lot of leaks surrounding Sonic Frontiers.

Moreover, players are worried that such an ambitious project would mean that the game won’t be out for a while. However, Sega is a step ahead all of us as they also unveiled the release date for the anticipated game release. And it’s coming this year.

Sega officially announces release date for Sonic Frontiers on all major platforms

Yesterday, Sega took the opportunity to announce the release date for Sonic Frontiers at the Gamescom Opening Night. But not only did they give fans a release date, they also included a trailer for the game that’s been talked about for all kinds of reasons.

From leaks about Sonic Frontiers to the game getting delayed, the gaming community has been talking about this game since it was announced.

Before they announced the release date, a leak was already going around about when Sonic Frontiers comes out. And true enough, the game is arriving on November 8 this year.

However, Sega experienced a blunder before they were able to announce the official release date.

  • Just hours before they were set to reveal more about the new Sonic game at Gamescom, they accidentally put up a trailer on YouTube.
  • The video was immediately delisted a few minutes after it was posted, but fans were quick to find out that the game is coming this year.

True enough, Sega officially announces Sonic Frontiers’ arrival this November 8. Although we’re looking forward to the release of Sonic Frontiers later this year, we can’t help but be a bit worried.

Will Sonic Frontiers deliver in giving fans a new experience for Sonic games?

Some fans worry that Sonic Frontiers may need more time in the oven before it releases. This is because Sonic finally takes on an open-world setting in the upcoming game. And from what we know about open-world games, it’s that the experience is better if the entire environment is enjoyable.

Nonetheless, we’re looking forward to seeing how Sega is going to deliver Sonic Frontiers to both old and new fans alike. However, it is a bit risky for Sega to release it on November 8. This is because a lot of big-title games are released around that time.

Games like Gotham Knights and Skull and Bones have anticipated releases this year, and they release around the time Sonic Frontiers does.

Sega promises a fresh combat system plus the open world in Sonic Frontiers. According to Takashi Iizuka, the head of the Sonic Team at Sega, he’s optimistic about the release of Sonic Frontiers.

“We do realize everyone is just kind of reacting to the videos that they saw and because they don’t understand what this new gameplay is, they’re kind of comparing it to other games that they already know,” Iizuka commented when fans started criticizing Sonic Frontiers based on early playthroughs of the game.

What’s different in the new game?

From the story trailer released on Sonic’s official YouTube channel, it really is different from previous games. First, it looks like the storyline is more serious in this title.

Then, there’s the way Sega is putting Sonic in an open-world setting. From the trailer, we can see that it the game really takes place in an open-world environment. However, the trailer didn’t give much away about the places you can explore.

It seems that Sega decided on keeping the side-scrolling, loop-de-loop mechanics Sonic is known for. The trailer didn’t shy away from showing us Sonic running and collecting those gold rings spread all over the game’s environment.

It’ll be interesting to see how much has changed in Sonic games once this title releases. And it won’t be long before we get our hands on it. On the other hand, you can also pre-order the game now to receive a bonus called “The Adventurer’s Treasure Box.”
