Should JYP Entertainment Postpone The ITZY Comeback?

The upcoming ITZY comeback has been making noise even before JYP Entertainment announced the official comeback. Many MIDZYs hope that the agency cancels the comeback, but that seems improbable to happen. At midnight of December 4, KST, ITZY’s BORN TO BE comeback schedule and track list. It looks like it’s set to happen already, but should JYP still not push through with it? Here’s what we think is the best to happen.

What Happened To The ITZY Members?

It had been a rollercoaster of emotions for ITZY and their fandom after their KILL MY DOUBT and first Japanese album, RINGO. After their successful Korean comeback in July, they quickly prepared for their Japanese album that was released last October 18. Nearly a month before, on September 19, JYP Entertainment announced that ITZY Lia would be on a temporary hiatus to focus on her overall health.

  • “ITZY Lia is currently suffering from extreme levels of nervousness and anxiety about continuing her schedule,” the agency explained in their statement. There is still no date when ITZY’s main vocalist will return, but we hope for her full recovery before stepping onto the stage.

In a Love Your W event last November 24, it shocked their fans only to witness three members attending it — Yeji, Ryujin, and Yuna, and there’s no sight of Chaeryeong. Unfortunately, when the event happened, Chaeryeong was reportedly under the weather — a reason why she had to skip it.

With the jam-packed and continuous schedules and promotions, it’s inevitable for the girls to get sick and be unable to recuperate right before their following schedule. Instead of sneaking a group comeback without a member, it could have been better to debut a solo or a unit.

Moreover, JYP Entertainment should have let the members rest for a while. They still have an upcoming appearance at the Asia Artist Awards 2023 in the Philippines on December 14. Adequate rest for recovery should be given to these idols after long, hectic, and back-to-back comebacks.

  • A lot of idols from different groups have also announced temporary hiatuses due to health reasons. Agencies need to focus on the idols’ health instead of continuous schedules ahead. Artists’ overall health should be prioritized to maintain the whole group in comebacks and events.

Fans React To The ITZY Comeback Announcement

Mixed reactions flooded X after the comeback announcement. Many raised concerns about JYPE’s schedule, which almost overlaps two of their artists’ releases, ITZY’s and NMIXX’s. Both girl groups are slated to drop their new music in January 2024.

On the other hand, some showed sadness over the fact that Lia would not be present in the group comeback. Although having a hiatus is the best option, fans wished that JYPE could have set individual or unit debuts rather than a group release without Lia.

While some want JYP to let the other girls rest for a while. With back-to-back schedules, preparation for a comeback would be tiresome for the girls who probably haven’t had the time to recover this year.

While it seems like the comeback is all set to happen in January, we wish nothing but the best and success to ITZY! We also hope that the members will have enough resting time after their schedules and promotions. Please give them time to recover, JYPE.
