Sabrina Carpenter Addresses Catholic Church Controversy: “Jesus Was A Carpenter”

Sabrina Carpenter addresses Feather music video Catholic Church controversy

Sabrina Carpenter has finally addressed the ‘Feather’ music video controversy. Earlier this week, it was revealed that a priest of a Brooklyn-based Catholic church was stripped of his duties for allowing the pop singer to film parts of her music video in the establishment. Here’s what the star has to say about it.

Sabrina Carpenter Gives A Comic Reaction To Feather MV Controversy

The controversy that had netizens split in discussion hasn’t gravely affected the pop star who lightly addressed it to Variety on November 29. She shared that the filming was done with the permission of the administration before adding that “Jesus was a carpenter.”

For the unversed, the controversy erupted after the priest of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Annunciation Parish in Williamsburg, Brooklyn was relieved of his administrative duties for allowing Carpenter to film parts of the ‘Feather’ music video inside the premises.

The priest had mentioned being unaware of the complete scenario of the filming in his apology posted on Facebook. He was only aware that they were going to film a funeral scene and felt shocked to see the completed video.

The Sabrina Carpenter Feather music video captures obnoxious men receiving the fruits of their deeds in the form of death. One of the men gets run over by a truck for cat-calling the 24-year-old star. Others fight each other, and end up choking after their tie gets stuck in an elevator door.

At the end of this video, Carpenter dances at their funeral wearing a black skirt with a veil. She also poses with their coffins that read “RIP B-.” This concluding scene became the reason for the discharge of the pastor, Msgr. Jamie J. Gigantiello from his administrative duties.

Netizens claim ‘she ate’

After Sabrina Carpenter‘s response to the controversy was published online netizens began to praise her. Several netizens came forward to appreciate her humor and sass in addressing this issue which they believe didn’t deserve such hard punishment.

Some have also mentioned that it was understandable from a Catholic parish as the church is a holly establishment where none of the music videos or movies should be filmed. Meanwhile, many believe that there wasn’t anything anti-Christ in the video and hence it doesn’t deserve such strict handling especially when greater crimes aren’t punished as strictly.

Overall, netizens agree that priest Jamie J. Gigantiello didn’t deserve to be stripped of his duties for permitting Sabrina Carpenter to film the iconic scene in the church.
