Will Apple TV+ ‘Hijack’ have a Season 2?

AppleTV Hijack season 2

The latest AppleTV+ original crime thriller series Hijack put the viewers on the edge of their seats and holding their breaths with intense storytelling and fantastic scenes. But, will Apple renew the show for another heart-pounding season? Hijack season 1 had just ended in the most unexpected way and fans are already asking for the possibility of making a season 2.

What is Hijack all about?

Warning: spoilers ahead! Hijack is an AppleTV+ original show comprised of seven high-octane episodes. Starring Emmy award nominee Idris Elba, the English actor plays corporate negotiator Sam Nelson as he unexpectedly embarks on a plane that would soon be hijacked by terrorists. Nelson boarded flight KA29 from Dubai to London in an attempt to reunite with his ex-wife. However, everything would take a riveting turn when a group of terrorists decide to take everyone hostage. A seven-hour flight told perfectly in seven episodes.

As the series progress, Sam also slowly creates a plan to stop the hijackers and bring everyone to safety. That includes making contact with the authorities on the ground, fighting the hijackers head-on, and doing what he does best – negotiating. If you think that’s all, then you’re completely wrong! There are still tons of twists that are about to happen especially in the last two episodes where the show revealed who Amanda (Holly Aird) is after he shot the plane’s pilot.

On top of that, we also learned the hijack isn’t just your normal terrorist attack. Instead, this was a plot of the airline company, Kingdom Airlines, who would crash their company’s stocks alongside the plane’s crashing. Basically, they aim to bring the stocks down so they can make more money in return, a dire and sinister act of the corporate world. But, it would be up to Sam to save every soul on the plane until the last minute.

Is AppleTV+ picking up Hijack for season 2?

Unfortunately, AppleTV+ has not made any announcement that Hijack will be getting a season 2. We might wait for a few months, but it looks like the story in Hijack has already been told. Sam Nelson saves the day, the hijacking was a failure, and the company’s evil plans were exposed. However, there seem to be a lot of things left unanswered. One of which is the real purpose of Amanda and how her character came to be. Plus, there are still a lot of things to explore outside of the hijacking itself.

Meanwhile, Idris Elba is out there giving us hints of what season 2 would be like if AppleTV+ ever renews Hijack. When asked by Variety if the audience is going to see more of Sam Nelson, Idris Elba responded with “I’d like that”. However, the premiered actor does not want Sam to be in another hijacking incident again. If we are ever going to see him as the corporate negotiator again and gracing our screens, perhaps we may be given with a Hijack spinoff?

On the other hand, the show’s creators George Kay and Jim Field Smith, also had subtle yet intriguing information about Hijack season 2.

During a meeting with Decider, George Kay and Jim Field Smith did not confirm the possibility of getting a second season, however, they also did not shut down the idea.

“There’s lots of stuff that — for as much as the series tries to answer its own questions that it sets up within itself as a limited series — I think there’s room for that character, you know, for sure ongoing. And there’s also things that are unanswered from Season 1, so we don’t know at the minute. We’re just enjoying the show,” Field Smith said.

That being said, we probably won’t be seeing Sam Nelson back in action anytime soon but everyone sure hopes this won’t be the end of his heroics. Hijack was positively received by viewers and critics alike. The show received a 7.7/10 rating from IMDB and an impressive 86% from Rotten Tomatoes.
