While there may be speculation that Pokemon Scarlet & Violet were taking the Arceus route, the Pokemon website shut that down. Gen 9 will go back to its roots. The website stated that players will battle Pokemon before they can catch them. While the open-world concept is something new to the series, it seems they don’t want to go too far from the formula. Reactions so far have been mixed after its discovery.
Fans took to Twitter to express their discontent with Scarlet & Violet.
Some wanted the catch mechanic that made Pokemon Legends: Arceus fun. The Pokemon website does not expressly state that it’s gone, meaning that there might be a chance for it to be part of the game.
It’s not that fans don’t want the battle system of Pokemon. It’s one of the most intriguing aspects of the series, but players want to have more options of catching Pokemon because of the recent release.

For others, going back to traditional gameplay makes a lot of sense. After all, it is part of the experience.
The Pokemon Company knows all too well that going too far in one direction could end up alienating fans. It has happened with many popular video game series in the past.
It’s still early to tell as the announcement trailer came as a surprise, and there’s no information revealed about the games yet. We’ll know more as the days progress.
