2023 is beginning to be a rough year for celebrities and icons. Two weeks in, but we are already witnessing the deaths of our favorite personalities. From the likes of Italian movie icon Gina Lollobrigida to football legend Pele, it’s unlike what we have seen before. Just a few hours ago, wrestling legend and “Ring of Honor” veteran, Jay Briscoe, was declared dead at only the young age of 38. Tony Khan, the owner of the promotion, announced the star’s death on Twitter.
Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today.
Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We'll do whatever we can to support his family.

Looking back at Jay Briscoe’s fantastic wrestling career
Jay Briscoe, born Jamin Pugh, wrestled on the professional stage in “Ring of Honor” alongside his brother, Mark Briscoe (Mark Pugh). The two began their journey in their teenage years (Jay was 18 and Mark was 17) and joined the league in 2002. The two were pioneers of ROH and have dominated everyone by being the best tag-team duo known as “The Briscoe Brothers”.

For 20 years, they became the most dominant duo by winning 13 World Tag championship titles in ROH. The Briscoe brothers also have just recently won a tag team title last December in a Double Dog Collar match against FTR’s Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood. Unfortunately, it will be the last time we will be seeing the two fight together. Jay and Mark were already inducted into the Ring of Honor Hall-of-Fame last year.
Tributes from the wrestling world (All Elite Wrestling, World Wrestling Entertainment, ROH) have poured for Jay Briscoe.
Cash Wheeler, who recently fought Jay and Mark, shared on Twitter moments after the news came out. “I’ve been in tears since I heard the news. I just don’t have the words. Rest in Peace Jay,”
