We’re in for some television news for today. If you’ve been tuning in at CNN for quite some time, the name Michael Bass sounds familiar. However, this would be the last time to associate Bass with CNN. The known Programming Chief bids farewell to the cable news channel announced just early Monday. Here’s what you missed so far about Michael Bass’ exit and what the network channel happens to do.
Michael Bass’ exit from CNN
As we all know, Bass’ exit isn’t the first for CNN this year. Earlier, former CNN Worldwide president, Jeff Zucker resigned from his position. In a CNN report, Zucker wished to stay for a little longer to help in the transition, but WarnerMedia wanted otherwise. Now, another long-time CNN executive prepares to leave.
- CNN Chief Executive Officer Chris Licht shared this news with the staffers on Monday. He wrote a memo about Bass’ decision to leave the network channel. CEO Licht mentions Bass as “a steady hand during some of the most turbulent times this network has faced.”
- No specific reason has been disclosed for Michael Bass’ resignation effective until the end of the year. Bass was one of the executives to run the network on an interim basis after Zucker’s departure from CNN. Licht added Bass to his team just a few months ago, around July.
- Although, reports by LA Times shared that the sudden move is not a surprise at all. Michael Bass has been known to be a close ally of Zucker. The report said that Bass wanted to follow the departure of Zucker immediately last February. Fortunately, with his highly trusted position and figure who understood the operation of CNN, it persuaded him to stay.

Moreover, the Executive Vice President of Programming worked with the former long-time president of the channel who resigned just in February. The two began to work at NBC with Bass as the producer, and Zucker as second-in-command.
- Bass, along with the two executives Amy Entelis and Ken Jautz, kept CNN steady upon the transition early this year. After nearly a decade in the network, the EVP helped in creating new shows and maintaining legacy shows in the network, as stated by Licht.
- Michael Bass, as CNN’s Executive VP of Programming, oversees all the live programs of the New York- and Atlanta-based shows. This includes all shows from the morning, dayside, prime time, and weekends.
- Before coming to CNN and NBC, from 2002 to 2007, he worked as a senior executive producer of CBS News’ “The Early Show”, “The Saturday Early Show”, and “The CBS Morning Show”, respectively.
CNN’s plans
Currently, Warner Bros. Discovery takes over the cable network channel, this started only at the beginning of this year. CEO Licht added in his memo that the cable network is launching a search for Michael Bass’ replacement. An interim plan may be up in a few days, so just in case you’re interested in Bass’ replacement, let’s stay tuned with CNN.
- Additionally, Licht sends his gratitude and best wishes to the EVP of Programming of the network channel. “I wish Michael well in his future endeavors and thank him for his contributions, guidance, and friendship.”
