April 24 – Toronto Raptors’ forward, Scottie Barnes, was named the Kia 2021-2022 Rookie of the Year.
After Barnes’ relentless effort, he finally beat other talented rookies like Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Green. In just his rookie year, he is already putting amazing numbers which makes him a reliable force on both ends of the floor.
Scottie Barnes ended the season with averages of 15.4 points, 3.4 assists, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals, while also shooting 49.2% from the field, and 29.8% from three every night. Subsequently, he also helped the Raptors in securing a playoff spot as the 5th seed in the East.

Out of 100 broadcasters and sportswriters, Barnes secured 378 points, wherein he received 48 first-place votes.
On the other hand, Evan Mobley came very close to winning it, getting just 15 points short from Barnes (363 points) and 43 first-place votes. Surprisingly, the first pick, Cade Cunningham, only received 9 first-place votes and 153 points as he comes in third.
In 74 games played, Scottie started as a power forward in all of them. Furthermore, the 20-year-old became the first-ever rookie in Raptors’ history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 250 assists in his rookie season. Another reason as to why he got the edge over the other guys is maybe because he’s the only finalist who made the playoffs.
The 2022 NBA Rookie Class is pretty deep and is stacked with some of the best young guys in the league. Sometimes, the winner of the Rookie of the Year award could be surprising.
