PS5: “Switcher” Patent Lets You Use Apps While The Game Still Runs

The gaming industry is booming today before of countless new innovations and the will of the developers to push the boundaries of technology. Sony PS5 is one such console that implemented loads of new technology and continues to deliver more with each new update. It is a console that is hard to find the cause of the availability issues, but once you find it, you won’t regret it. PS5 is now back with another new feature that applies the switch technology. Here’s what we know about it.

The Patent

The feature became known when Playstation registered a patent for the feature. The filing of this new patent was first reported by OPAttack earlier today. With this feature, Sony will allow you to access other apps without even leaving the game that you are currently playing. Earlier we received a report that Sony was researching for such a feature and here it is.

“The window can be pinned to the GUI and user control can automatically switch to another application. Upon user input requesting a menu, the menu is presented in a layer over at least a portion of the first layer of content based on an execution of a menu application,” read the patent application.

Is It Plausible?

The simple answer to this is that everything is plausible if implemented in the right way. This feature might have a unique patented name, but it sounds like something we already know. Xbox One also tried to implement such a feature to stream TV and music through the special Snap system. As you can guess, it didn’t work very well and had to be discarded. The major reason for this was that RAM wasn’t able to handle that kind of load.

The same goes for Sony but the difference is that PS5 is a next-gen console, and its RAM might be enough. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that Sony will bring this feature next. It may not come or may not come for a long time, but patent depicts that it is surely being planned. PS5 already has a Switcher feature but this is quite advanced and deals with complex layers. Anyhow, Sony as shown in the past that when it sets its mind to it, it can do anything.
