It appears that Sony will continue the tradition of launching a pro and slim version of their gaming console. Looking at instances from the past, it takes the company about 3-4 years from the initial console release to produce their slimmer and better counterparts. That seems to be the case around this time as well and we might see the PS5 slim coming out at the end of this year or the start of next year. However, the PS5 Pro might take a little longer to develop.
Some information regarding this subject was leaked through the documents presented at the Microsoft vs FTC court trial. The papers hinted that Sony plans to release the PS5 Slim at a price point of $399.99 by the end of the year. It also suggested that they would be launching a PS5 Handheld version in the near future as well. We are going to list some possible features of the two upcoming devices in this article. - The PS5 slim should directly compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Series S. As a result, it might boast a 1440p resolution as the output. However, that would make it inferior to the PS5 disc less version coming at the same price point. Therefore we believe that it is going to come with a 4k native output with additional downscaling option to 1440p.
- Another department which made the PS5 inferior to the Xbox Series X/S was its backwards compatibility. The company might add the feature with both of the upcoming PS5 slim and PS5 Pro.
- The PS5 Slim should be looking to provide the similar experience of a regular PS5 at a decreased price range with a slimmer physical appeal.
Possible Features of the PS5 Pro
- 8k gaming is what comes to everyone’s mind when they hear about a Pro version of the PS5. But in our opinion, the new device’s priority should be to provide a better 4k gaming experience instead of pushing to 8k. We think that the Pro is going to offer a higher and stable framerate for a smoother gameplay.
- It is a cool possibility that the PS5 Pro might be bundled with the DualSense Edge controller which is the premium version of their regular controller.
- Sony could finally solve the console’s storage problem by equipping it with a SSD containing larger storage space.
- Naturally all these additional amenities are going to make the PS5 Pro more expensive than a regular PS5.
The main factors that differentiate these two devices are pricing, performance and physical appearance. You should compare your priorities against these three elements in order to make the right purchase decision.
