Pokemon Legends: Arceus – Not Open World, According To Devs

When we look at the trailer of the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it very much feels like it is an open-world adventure game, where players will be able to move around the fields, hiding in the grass around Pokemon, sneaking up on them to capture them, and taking part in Pokemon battles by the side of their Pokemon on the overworld map.

It was also initially compared to several open-world games when the trailer first revealed it. The visuals on the official website also seemed to suggest an open-world title. However, it has now been clarified that this might not be the case.

The Pokemon Company, in a statement to Kotaku, stated that Pokemon Legends: Arceus will not be an open-world game. However, the game will be played in segmented areas. The main village will be the base of operations, where players will receive tasks before going out into the open areas.

“In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region. After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon.”

Basically, players will not be able to access the entire map but will have to return to the home base, the Jubilife village, after one mission to get tasks and other missions. It has been stated that while the Pokemon Company had never described Pokemon Legends: Arceus is an open-world game, it was perceived by both fans and media to be one. While this may not satisfy the perceived expectations, it can still be a whole different experience.

Players will find themselves in the Hisui region, an older version of Sinnoh. Your task will be to complete the first-ever Pokedex, working with a “mysterious professor”. The player will have the choice of starter Pokemon, as always, with Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott.
