There are many ways for a Trainer in Pokemon Go to explore and capture Pokemon. Mega raids are one of the places where Trainers will encounter powerful and exclusive Pokemon. However, these raids are not very easy, so Trainers will have to be prepared in every aspect.
Trainers can take part in Mega Raids individually or in teams. These raids will pit Trainers against Mega-Evolved Pokemon, which might be a legendary or other extremely rare Pokemon. Mega Raids during events will allow players to encounter event-exclusive Pokemon. Such encounters will feature Pokemon that are very powerful and have more CP.
MEGA EVOLVING
- Mega evolution in Pokemon Go is different from evolution in other Pokemon games. The energy is required for this, and the first time a Pokemon is evolved, it will cost much higher.
- This initial evolution will require around 100-200 Mega Energy, while later ones will cost just 20-40 Energy depending on the Pokemon. This reduction in energy requirement is only of the Pokemon has been Mega Evolved the first time.
- You may obtain Mega Energy at gyms or at Mega Raids. Mega Raids will award 50-90 Mega Energy, and this will depend on how fast you defeat the enemy. Take note that Mega Evolution is also not permanent, so Trainers must make their choice carefully before evolving a Pokemon.
LIMITED MEGA-EVOLVED POKEMON
In Pokemon Go, there are only 15 Pokemon under this list. However, Niantic will add more pokemon in the future.
Abomasnow | Absol | Altaria |
Ampharos | Blastoise | Charizard X |
Charizard Y | Gengar | Gyarados |

MEGA LEVELS/DIFFICULTY
Raids show up near certain Gyms. The Eggs take about an hour to hatch, and players will have to wait for 45 minutes at the Gym to participate in Raids. The color of the Eggs will tell you the difficulty of the Raid:
- 1st Tier: Pink
- 3rd Tier: Yellow
- 5th Tier: Purple with White Stripes
- Mega Raid: Beige and Red
RAID PASSES
You will need Raid Passes to participate in Mega Raids. Passes are available for free once a day. Those who would like to participate in more than one raid a day will have to purchase the Premium Raid Passes.
INVITATIONS
Trainers can invite friends to a Raid Lobby by using the Invite Friends feature on the right side. A maximum of 5 players can join. An invitation that Trainers receive can only be accepted if the Lobby is not filled already. Once the Raid Battle begins, the invitations will expire.
STOCKING UP
Mega Raids will have Pokemon that are very powerful and have a high CP of the range of 30,000 to 50,000. Trainers will not be able to face them alone and will need friends. However, items are important assets, and stocking up on Potions and Max Revives will prove very useful during Raids, especially Tier 5 and Mega Raids.
DODGING
Dodging Quick Moves can take too much time. At the lower tiers of Raids, only charged moves should be dodged. In Mega Raids, dodging is not recommended. This will waste time, and the focus should be on obtaining the most Mega Energy.
TIMING
Raid Eggs usually appear during 5:30 AM and 7:45 PM local time. Raid Bosses will pear between 6:30 AM and 9:30 PM. If a Trainer leaves the Raid, the Boss will regain HP. It is recommended that a friend stays in the Raid if a player’s team faints so that the Boss is locked in. Trainers can also leave before all Pokemon are defeated, which will save time.
TYPE MATCHUPS
Mega Raids will need Trainers to use their most damaging attacks, and one way to do this is to target the Type Disadvantages of the Pokemon in Raids. This will require that the Trainer knows the Pokemon in the Raid and a knowledge of which type is best effective in defeating that Pokemon.
TARGETTING SPECIFIC MEGA ENERGIES
If Trainers desire specific Mega Energy, they will need to do a bit of research on combatting specific types of Pokemon.
So remember to be prepared and informed before participating in a Mega Raid, Trainers. All the best encountering Pokemon out there!
