Niantic’s Pokémon GO continues to create interacting events that keep the players occupied. Yearly festivals, seasonal events, monthly community days, and weekly spotlight hours are just some of the game’s most recent additions. Now, another weekly event is knocking on our gyms – Pokemon GO: May 18 Raid Hour.
This event first started back in March 2019 wherein it was initially called “Legendary Lunch Hour“. In Raid Hour (formerly Lunch Hour), Pokémon Go players will be given exactly 1 hour (every Wednesday) to find 5-star Legendary Raids. By doing this, Niantic will increase the frequency of appearance of the said raids. Generally speaking, these 5-star raids will feature at least one Mythical, Rare, or Legendary Pokémon as long as it is active in the game.

At the peak of the Covid-19 Pandemic, events like this in Pokémon Go were canceled. Now that we are adapting to a new normal, events like these are now back with fewer restrictions. Scroll down below to read all the details and guidelines for the Pokemon Go Raid Hour event.
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN THE MAY 18 RAID HOUR?
Players who wish to join this weekly event must possess a RAID PASS at a gym in an active raid. There are three types of Raid Pass which can be found in the game. They are namely:
- Free Raid Pass (Orange) – The daily free raid pass can be obtained for free by just spinning a gym’s PokeStop. Unfortunately, you can only get one (1) free pass per day.
- Premium Raid Pass (Red) – As the name suggests, the Premium raid pass needs to be purchased using a hefty amount. One Premium pass costs around 100 PokeCoins. Purchase as many as you want since there is no limit to keeping a premium raid pass.
- Remote Raid Pass (Blue) – The Remote Raid Pass was designed for the restrictions given by the pandemic. You can use a remote pass to access even the farthest gyms as long as you see it on your screen, regardless of where it is currently located. These passes also need to be purchased via PokeCoins. Furthermore, you can only hold on to up to three (3) passes at a time. But, if you use one, you can buy some more again.
RAID HOUR DATE AND TIME
This week’s Raid Hour will commence on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. As usual, the event will start at 6 pm and will conclude after an hour, 7 pm (your local time).
THE HIGHLIGHT POKEMON

The guardian deity of Poni Island, Tapu Fini, will be the featured Pokemon in this week’s Raid Hour. Although Tapu Fini is a swordfish like Water-type Legendary Pokemon, there is no shiny variant of it yet.
