By the middle of each month, the PlayStation Plus catalog updates to include more games into Extra and Premium. From January 17, there will be several fan favorite titles you can play as a subscriber. Getting them early as possible will allow you maximize your enjoyment as it will take months before they take a title off. Here are the games they’ll add this January 2023:
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition (PlayStation Plus Extra, Premium)
DMC 5 was a return to form for the franchise and many consider it as one of the best. One of the most entertaining features of the game was the crisp combo system that really made each character feel badass. It’s also a culmination of several stories, with Nero uniting with Dante to work for the mysterious V.
Special Edition adds several new modes to play and also features enhancements like ray tracing. It also includes a new Turbo Mode and Legendary Dark Knight mode. You also get to play as Virgil after completing the main story.

Back 4 Blood
Back 4 Blood was intended as Turtle Rock’s spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead franchise. It’s definitely an upgrade on several parts, from the customizable characters to the weapons and items in the game. It isn’t as revolutionary as the L4D series, but will be entertaining enough to play with friends. As long as you avoid those scenarios with weird RNG card combinations, you’ll be fine for most of your run.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
DragonBall FighterZ was one of the most memorable fighters to release in the PS4 era. Finally, we had Dragon Ball characters with mechanics similar to classic fight stick games. You have the anime style of Dragon Ball with modern fighting elements seen in the Guilty Gear franchise.
Arc System Works does a great job of capturing the uniqueness of each characters while the 3v3 tag matches led to a lot of frantic fights. The game was created under the supervision of Akira Toriyama, staying true to the source material as much as possible.
Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm
The episodic Life is Strange tells the story of a photography student who discovers she can rewind time. She and her best friend then discovers a darker side to the down, and must find a way to change the past to save their future. Life is Strange is considered one of the best stories released on the PS4. The PS Plus release also includes Before the Storm, which is a prequel story.
Just Cause 4: Reloaded
The Just Cause series was one of the entertaining open-world games of its time. Many remember the many crazy things you can do with the grappling hook. Just Cause 4 adds to that shenanigans with numerous weapons and vehicles. There’s also the wingsuit. All in all, its an entertaining game that can keep you playing for hours at a time.
