After months of speculations, leaks, and rumors, it’s now official. PlayStation Studios has officially announced its acquisition of Bluepoint Games, the developers of Demon’s Souls Remake. Announcing the same, Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst also shared his excitement through a blog post on PlayStation Blog.
“With each of its projects, Bluepoint has raised the bar on console-defining visuals and gameplay, and the studio’s vast expertise in world-building and character creation will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studios properties.”

Bluepoint’s future vision is original games. Speaking to IGN, Marco Thrush, President at Bluepoint Games said, “Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us.”
Thrush also said he’s “thrilled” to have officially joined the PlayStation team.

“We are open always to building new relationships or bringing people in-house, but only if we adhere to the quality-first mentality and the right kind of innovative content, new experiences, diverse experiences. Because all of these teams, they share a lot, but they’re also very different from one another, and that’s what I really like.”

“They need to be quality-oriented. We’re not buying teams to just be bigger. We’re only buying teams because we feel that together, we’re going to make something that is going to be even better than if we did it separate from one another.”

With this new acquisition, the family of teams that make up PlayStation Studios is expanding quickly. Check out the additions Sony has made below:
- Housemaque (June 2021) – Returnal
- Nixxes – a technical studio that specialized ports
- Firesprite – veteran studio from SIE Studio Liverpool, The Playroom VR
